Soundgarden

Most of their albums sound like unfinished jamming sessions with a lot of experimental stuff thrown in. The only album that could really be seen as being slick is the debut, and even then I don`t think of Eddie Vedder`s voice as being slick............its one of these muscle rock voices.

I always thought the term grunge (Seattle Sound) during the early 90s with banRAB like Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots(from california), Pearl Jam, Soungarden and so on, fit the venue/label as a sub-genre to Alternative Rock quite well, considering you also would wear clothes from 'Goodwill' or something to that sort in order to fit better into the grunge scene, alot of flannel shirts, etc.
I always liked that green wool sweater Kurt Cobain wore on his MTV unplugged, although its not something I would want to wear personally.
And all the different styles of rock music from the 80s was now a 'thing of the past', with the release of Nirvana's-Nevermind, during the first part of the 90s the grunge (Seattle sound) was established, the rest is all music history from a bygone era itself, (Grunge).

I actually don't like this band, except for the occasional listen to Black Hole Sun.

I find his voice really annoying, for some reason. Like, when I hear it, I think of cliched rock images. It might be just me, I'm the only person I know who doesn't like his voice.

STP debut 1992 and Bush 1995 also I recognize that Bush are often seen as post-grunge but lets face it, they sound like a terrible Nirvana covers band and initially didn`t bring anything new to grunge to be called post. At least the other so called post grunge banRAB had their own sound which was as diverse as the grunge banRAB before them.

I think that post-grunge could really be applied to anything that sounded grungy and had a distinctive grunge influence, which is why I think of groups like Foo Fighters as the leading light in this movement in a very life affirming way.

Yeah what made them 2nd tier? They may not have been as popular, but I don't think thats any testament to their playing or songwriting.

I really, really hope they debut their new song at Lollapalooza. I'm sure as hell not buying that new Guitar Hero game to hear it.

Soundgarden are amazing, and Superunknown is an incredible album.

Down on the Upside and Badmotorfinger are also extremely good albums. Chris Cornell is a God.

I also agree that STP would be under the grunge label, although they always had a slight different sound & style as some of the others banRAB did from the same era, (in my opinion) especially later on in their career with their '99 album release 'No.4' with the single Sour Girl, when compared to the traditional rock sound of STPs music, with other singles from the same album No.4 (singles) Down and No Way Out
But their debut album 'Core' was as grunge as you would want with singles like Wicked Garden, Plush and so on, in my opinion STP started to develope a more distinctive sounding personality musically with the release of Purple in '94, with singles like Interstate Love Song & Vasoline.
Core is my favorite album by STP, but I also liked the progression of their musical style with the album No.4 and the single Sour Girl, for example.
Their 2001 album release of Shangri-La Dee Da with the single, Days Of The Week, was even more to my own personal liking musically, Hollywood Bitch, etc.
I always liked Robert DeLeo as a bassist, underrated in my opinion.
