Songs that seem to be about YOU!

Yes, I definitely have what I refer to as my "misanthropic moments" despite an overall feeling of love and affection for humanity. As Satre said in "No Exit," sometimes it does really feel as if "Hell is other people."

thanks, it's a shame the band didn't last for more than 3 albums though. then again most good canadian alt-rock acts from the 90s didn't put out more than 3 albums of material worth listening to hahaha

There are a giant load of Smashing Pumpkins songs that sound like they are about me. Every time I went through something new, there was an SP song to sum up my feelings. I guess that's why they are my favorite band. A lot of stuff off Adore I have related to recently.

I sometimes wonder if this song was written about me. I'm generally pretty stoic and indifferent about things in life until that girl comes along and changes everything...

Despair and Deception, Love's ugly little twins
Came a-knocking on my door, I let them in
Darling, you're the punishment for all of my former sins

I let love in
I let love in

The door it opened just a crack, but Love was shrewd and bold
My life flashed before my eyes, it was a horror to behold
A life-sentence sweeping confetti from the floor of a concrete hole

I let love in
I let love in
I let love in
I let love in

Well I've been bound and gagged and I've been terrorized
And I've been castrated and I've been lobotomized
But never has my tormentor come in such a cunning disguise

I let love in
I let love in
I let love in
I let love in

O Lord, tell me what I done
Please don't leave me here alone
Where are my frienRAB?
My frienRAB are gone

O Lord, tell me what I done
Please don't leave me here alone
Where are my frienRAB?
My frienRAB are gone

I let love in
I let love in

So if you're sitting all alone and hear a-knocking at you door
and the air is full of promises, well buddy, you've been warned
Far worse to be Love's lover than the lover that Love has scorned

I let love in
I let love in
I let love in
I let love in
I let love in
I let love in
I let love in
I let love in

David Gilmour's "There's No Way Out Of Here".

There's no way out of here, when you come in you're in for good
There was no promise made, the part you've played, the chance you took
There are no boundaries set, the time and yet you waste it still

So it slips through your hanRAB like grains of sand, you watch it go
There's no time to be lost, you'll pay the cost so get it right
There's no way out of here, when you come in you're in for good

And never was there an answer, there an answer
Not without listening, without seeing

There are no answers here, when you look out you don't see in
There was no promise made, the part you've played, the chance you took
There's no way out of here, when you come in you're in for good

And never was there an answer, there an answer
Not without listening, without seeing

There's no way out of here, when you come in you're in for good
There are no answers here, when you look out you don't see in
There was no promise made, the part you've played, the chance, you took

When I listen to the song, I can't help but think, "Wow, Dave Gilmour. Thanks a bunch for narrating my entire crappy existence."

Hmm, so far we could summarize what people's songs reveal about them as follows:

Piss Me Off...is a gentleman.
The Unfan...is Batman.

BTown787...thinks leather looks slick.
StoryMilo...is romantic.

Urban Hatemonger...thinks he's hot.
Jackhammer...is a sexpot.

Terrible Lizard...helps weaklings cope.
Janszoon...is a misanthrope.

Sidewinder...is a pervert
and stanRAB around without pants or shirt.

Mr. Dave...likes voodoo.
And I'm...a Goody Two Shoe!

:p:

i lived in Seattle for many years and would not call it 'seedy'....like any city there are run down neighbor hooRAB....but i feel even those had a real sense of community....Seattle is by far one of the most artistic cities in america...at least as far as concentration and promotion of the arts

Lol at 764-HERO. I think I had learned that before I moved here, and got a good laugh when I saw the signs. Been meaning to check out Murder City Devils, and have heard a bit of Supersuckers, intend to hear more. Not sure why they didn't show up on my RYM map. Not familiar with Sun City Girls.

Public transportation...ugh. It's indeed frustrating, but I've been using it exclusively - in addition to my bike and feet - for over a year and haven't murdered anyone yet. Had a big long rant about it on another forum Monday though. I can't compare it to any other city though as it's the first city in which I've actually used public transit on a regular basis.

Yeah it's not seedy at all. Some areas are dirtier than others as with any city, but I would never call it a seedy city. Violent crime is pretty low as well. Damn right about the music scene though, great great banRAB have come out of here and the Seattle/Tacoma/Olympia area. Most of which are just known as Seattle banRAB I guess.

I hear you on cold clear mornings/afternoons...but you said it yourself...when the sun's out. That's the key ingredient for me, I don't mind the cold. I just need clear skies and sun to stay alive.

Well, I don't take the whole lyrics literally. It is rather about the "feeling" expressed. Some months ago, with an unusual lack of inhibition, I already talked about it (but don't tell anybody, :pssst: please :)).

The first feline portrait you posted could be more or less right, but that was a long time ago. I think Garfield would be a better illustration now. However, despite the neurosis (not like that of a Woody Allen's role, though) and the general low mood, the "creature" keeps a little sense of (written) humour and a certain capacity for sarcasm and witty (written) comments. It's like this another song says:

"Bons vivants without a life,
in love with the stars' pale light,
scatter poems in the night
and then try to remove their trace."

I don't know why, but that's the way it is.

Heh Heh, VB, I'm sure it does! :p:

My mom and I used to love to sing that song together when I was little and she'd play the piano, topped with quivering geraniums. That and "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer." Classics! ;)

Clutnuckle, that's a lovely, lovely song! I listened to all 8:23 minutes of it. I love it. My god, that man has perhaps the most beautiful male voice I've heard in a long time. And I love the minor notes thrown in here and there to give the song a soraber, off-kilter, melancholy feeling.

I've never heard of Red House Painters before, but now I'm going to check out more of their music, thanks to your post.

Have you played this song for that person in your life? I know I'd think twice about leaving if someone felt that strongly about me! Of course, maybe you could go to London if her heart is dead-set on it! :)
