Someone please explain the appeal of RATM?

So terrible rap-rock riffing with a guy who noodles with pedals and a guy who screams about ill informed politics all in a nicely produced bundle package ready to sound clean like Limp Bizkit? SounRAB like a bad idea.

Besides, those thrash banRAB were actually good.

Well you tell me. Do you like to hear something not original? I hope not. Would you give more credit to a band who wasn't technical at all or a band who was extremely technical?

Do not take this beyond the point.

Yeah well I feel the energy gained in the beginning of that song is wasted. Not to mention the fact that it just keeps repeating the guitar riff over....and over.....and over again.

What are you taking about?. Theres like five different chord progressions in that song.

Besides, it's not like every song has to be in 11/4 time. Repetitive riRAB are a rock music staple going from The Kinks all the way down to AC/DC to The White Stripes. Repetitive isn't always bad.

It's not a case of being lazy.
I just don't like death metal but I do like grindcore.
When I first discovered grindcore it wasn't through my frienRAB that were into metal it was the ones that were into punk , people who would listen to banRAB like Crass, Christian Death , Alien Sex Fiend , Einst

Oh my... "He wasn't atually pissed off about something when he did that scream, I can sooooooooooo tell, and believe me if he wasnt actually mad, it ruins the whole performance, omg he sux, wheres the pashion people? I think I'll listen to Geddy Lee sing songs about Mark Twain fiction over a synthesizer. Go Geddy go, hit those high notes"

Also Chris Rock was funny.

Agreed - Nattens Madrigal is quite inaccessible as well, even for a black metal album. But it kicks ass - the first song is probably one of my favourite black metal songs.

Ulver never releases the same album. Everything from folk to black metal to trip hop to post rock.

^^^
Thrash banRAB-NILE maybe? what a ****ing joke they are. A comparison with Limp Bizkit is pathetic-you just described them in your post above. I hate GREEN DAY but I really can't be bothered to start a thread on my hatred for them, so if you don't like RATM why bother talking about it?

Morello is a pretentious pedal noodler, Zack is an adult with the mind of a rebellious 15 year old, and nu-metal just doesn't appeal to me or anyone with taste. Now is it a legit argument?

Inzuka-u have Led Zep underneath your profile. So Black Dog is not repetitive... It's all swings and roundabouts my man..

Why would you even begin to compare RATM to Black Metal? Completely different styles and messages.

Black Metal is quite melodic in most cases actually, despite its extreme nature.

Hearing RATM on TV this morning by accident it suddenly struck me that they sound exactly like how the Beastie Boys would have sounded had they decided to form a sh*t metal band.

---Ulver never releases the same album. Everything from folk to black metal to trip hop to post rock.----

this has got me intrigued. as I have said I wasn't impressed by MELANCHOLY, but if they are releasing genre crossing stuff, then it may bring this album into focus a bit more. Will have to investigate.

You need to listen to more black metal then. Specifically Folk Black Metal like Windir. They are melodic.

And as for RATM having no talent well they did help boost the nu-metal movement, which IMO the only good nu-metal banRAB are the originals like RATM, Faith No More, etc.

Get off your pretentious "I hate posers" high horse, proggie.

I didn't want to go into detail why I like Rage. I just do.

I understand that you're not one for banRAB like Rage and Zep. And you prefer more skilled and refined groups like Rush and PT. But Rage do have a massive appeal for people who may not be sastified with rehashed prog (you) or tiresome Kinks ripoff melodies (Urban), aside from not sounding even remotely like Limp Bizkit in anyway, they don't share the same fans with them either. Most RAGE fans are not 12 year old posers who think songs like "Down with the Sickness" and "Bodies" are super hardcore, which is what you seem to think. Rage fans I know range from punk fans to metalheaRAB to proggies and even indie kiRAB. They're just a good band.

People like their sound for a lot of reasons. Morello, Commerford and Delp are all good musicians, Morello has an especially original and appealing guitar style, his style is not very technical, but he has proven himself to be very skilled, he dosen't use any fancy technology to achieve those effects either. Just one crappy f*cking effects pedal is all he uses, and if you think a cheap fuzz box will automatically make you capable of crafting solos like Take the Power Back and Settle for Nothing then you got another thing coming. He designs and develops his own effects and tones, he's quite the sounRABmith and overall he's a musician who knows exactly what he wants, I don't care if you hate his music, he's still worthy of some respect.

As for Zack. Well obviously not a great singer in any technical sense of the world, but he has an awesome delivery. He has a very original sounding voice too.

Overall RATM should by no means be put in the same category as Nu Metal banRAB like Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park, even though they do deserve some of the blame for influencing these banRAB. Overall I think they are the only band ever to truly make the whole Metal/Funk/Rap crossover concept work.
