There were many Gods and Goddesses and the chief one was Ra, priests would worship him so that the sun would rise in the morning. There are many books out there about this but I hope this causes you to have a little more understand in ancient Egypt's culture and religion. Many people go to Cairo thinking that is the most important part of Ancient Egypt, but Thebes (now known as Luxor) was where much more of it happened. The pyramids are nothing on Valley of The Kings & Queens.
Now, modern Egypt is mostly a muslim nation, however there are other sects who live in it. There is a large culture of begging, bartering and haggling due to how impoverished people are. Women tend to be veiled and men in charge.
