So Resistance is 17gb

But Crysis looks better and will be smaller.

Infact, PC games have been doing 1920x1200 for years and the games still managed to fit on 4.7gb single layer DVDs. Why does Resistance need 17gb? Even the install for great looking high resolution PC games isn't anywhere near 17gb.

Because all of the audio and shit on the resistance Blu ray disc is uncompressed ( im assuming ). While ( im also assuming ) crysis has a ton of compressed data on each disk to minimize the dvd's.

and they actually don't write assembly for the games...they do however have to program for the neuances for the console ... kinda like back when we had sega genesis, snes, etc. Programing wasn't simply done in C++ it utilized what the consoles had available to them.

Most developing companies seem to want to use the least amount of money possible by reusing old code even if there are SDK's readily available to them.

But its getting faster and faster and faster... I dunno. I'd imagine while the HD revolution is just storage space, they'll come up with a completely new medium for data storage and transfer within 10 years. Just my guess. Like solid state harddrives?

solid state hard drives have been out for a while.
i realize that transfer speed to speeding up, however capacity is becoming increased at a higher rate than transfer speed.

you've got a 50gb disk, how long will that take to read from begining to end? i guess it doesn't matter, because people have been putting up with long load times for years
