So Resistance is 17gb

dt, It's all about compression, and with blu ray, developers don't have to compress and can put full hd sound and picture into games. Thats why they are usually bigger. Although right now you won't find many ps3 games using blu ray to its full capacity, because right now about 80% of the games on ps3 are ports from the 360.

I really can only see first party sony developers using the blu ray discs to its full capacity. I mean look at mgs4 (even though its not a first party, its an exclusive as of right now), its supposedly rumored to be 50gigs. I'm more than positive half of that is going to be uncompressed sound, because kojima needs to make up for the lack of rumble.

EDIT: I can only imagine how rpg's are going to be. I'm assuming square and other developers are going to put more data to make games bigger, longer, sound much better, and look better as well. The potential in the rpg market for the ps3 is amazing.

With blu ray they finally changed it so that the read speeds are constant throughout the disc.

just like CDroms were once at 4x and now are at 52+x blu ray and Dvd are constantly speeding up.

none of this matters because Resistance is arguably the best and longest game on the PS3.

Me and a friend took at least a week to beat it on easy on cooperative mode, playing about 1-2 hours a night.

I'm not saying it's not a good game, I'm just saying that it seems like it doesn't need to be 17gb.

As for read speeds, 12x DVD-ROM is definitely faster than 2x Blu-ray, which is what the PS3 has. They can't upgrade the Blu-ray drive in the future though because developers couldn't design a game to need more than 2x otherwise older units will stutter badly.

Why does it matter how long it takes to read from beginning to end? Do you think it has to read the entire disc to start the game or something?
