Single Father - BBC1

Well I liked it; I'll be watching next week for sure. Normally I flick my eyes between the telly and the laptop, but for parts of this I just stared at the screen.

I thought the character of the school liaison officer was entirely unbelievable. I genuinely don't believe that such an official would behave like that under the circumstances and it rather spoiled a story which seemed entirely realistic up until that point.

Was Rita's sister saying 'next wife' or 'ex wife' when referring to the women in the house when she arrived? I confess I missed the first 15 minutes which may have explained it.

Thanks to problems with my freeview reception, I ended watching this instead of Downton Abbey - but glad I did, thought it was good and showed alot of potential. You have to laugh at people judging a 4-part series after 8 minutes. I don't know what people expect with thought-provoking drama, I hardly think this was the type of programme to watch if you demand instant satisfaction. Really good to see Sunday night TV starting to improve again.

I totally agree but apart from that thought it was excellent and DT as ever an amazing actor. I watched it yesterday having taped it and then watched EEnders. Not a good move so much death!

I didn't understand that fully either. Did he mean literally, or metaphorically, as in, Stuart would be a better father to them?!

I thought this was excellent - very well written and acted by all concerned. Totally believable (well apart from the school attendance officer but you can't expect perfection). I'll certainly be tuning in for all the remaining weeks with fingers firmly crossed they can keep up this high standard.

Anyone else just not feeling this? Tennant is good, as expected, but the rest of the cast are awful and the script is mediocre. Maybe he shouldn't have left Doctor Who if he's having to resort to doing crap like this.

Hmm, didn't really enjoy it myself. It all felt like something I'd seen before, and I totally agree with whoever said DT sounded like he was giving birth in the bathroom scene! That was an unintentionally funny scene.
Don't rate Surrane Jones as an actor either, so that put me off. The kiRAB were good though, that was about it.
I was dead set on not watching the rest of it, but I see Rupert Graves is in next week's......

Really really excellent acting, from everyone including the kiRAB (British child actors are usually quite wooden). Will be tuning in next week - thought Downton Abbey was boring.
