Single Father - BBC1

The review on Radio 4 said to stick with it - that the first episode might put people off as it did get a bit boring, but that the next episode gets interesting as all is not what it seems (or something like that), so I will watch next week.

I enjoyed it, but if I thought it was going to be another 3 weeks of the same, I would probably stop watching.
 
I just watched this back - I thought it was very good. Those feelings of total limbo and helplessness in the immediate aftermath brought back memories for me for sure.
Well acted by David Tenant especially in those scenes.

The wife just seemed like normal harried wives and mothers. It was her sister I wanted to belt, when she just stomped in and was so snotty to Sarah.

When compared to The Deep - this is a great improvement in terms of BBC drama.

Although VERY disturbing to think that perhaps none of the children are his. That would be devastating. Can you imagine?

Cameron, your review of Ep3 is fab. You have captured 'the feel' of the programme really well.
 
I found it so heartbreaking. In the past year I've lost my aunt, uncle and grandmother so to see a programme that focuses on a death of a loved one made me come to terms with my emotions. It's a shame that people are lambasting SF as I think it's quite promising. You can't just make a judgement about it after just one episode.
 
I'm off to Downton Abbey, it may be shoite but its better than this Single faither crap, 8 minutes and all i feel is bored. its going to get murdered ratings wise.
 
I did not click on the link since I obviously do not want to read a review of episode 3 a week before I watch it - so I hope that I am right to assume @twin's post is not a spoiler.
 
What I really enjoy about this is the lack of "exposition". The usual trick would be to have some "third party" visit the house, probably during the funeral while everyone else was there and have them introduced to each family member in turn so we'd know who was who. None of that here!

Also, that sliding tackle was a cracker! I wonder how many takes that needed!

I am also very intrigued by the apparent plot development next week...

Why do people need excitment all of the time? What's wrong with watching a portrayal of real life when it's well acted. The oldest girl was obviously going to take it badly but we can see Tennants grief and his struggle to keep things together. The youngest girl doesn't really have any understanding of death so he's having to suppress his grief to deal with both girls. The elder boy is, to me, the most interesting as Tennants character is just allowing him to shoulder too much responsibity with no thought of his feelings.
 
Really enjoyed this. I cried :( The beginning was so sad. David Tennant showing just the right amount of emotion I think and clearly unable to show as much affection for the girl who isn't his daughter.

Can't wait for next Sunday night now :)
 
Not really a great idea putting it up against Downton.

Might watch it on iplayer later, but I'm not much of a DT fan so I'll read the comments here first I think/
 
Just watched this...was a bit 'nervous' about seeing DT in something other than DW-I was a huge Doc Ten fan, but what a fantastic piece of television. I think DT acted this brilliantly as did the kiRAB. Having been a single parent (under totally different circumstances) I can imagine the complete angst he must have felt and his feeling of 'not being able to do it'. And the kiRAB were portrayed brilliantly, from the step-daughter feeling like she doesn't belong to the younger boy who just 'played up'.

Fantastic.
