Shoulder Tendinitis...does it ever go away?

I haven't gone to PT and I haven't had an MRI yet. I try not to take pain meds because it seems there are more adverse reactions than anything. I know I have a bulging disc in my neck so that may be unrelated to the shoulder. I have noticed that I get these certain pains in my upper arm during that time of the month that I normally don't get otherwise except now and then. I was just curious if there was a tear and it didn't get treated, if it could lead to any type of infection. I want to see if there is anything I can do to get it to heal on its own. Surgery is not something I really entertain unless I REALLY have to. I will tolorate so much pain before any surgery. How are you feeling now?

FB,

Well I went to an Ortho surgeon yesterday and he thought that I had torn my RC. He did want me to get an MRI and the thing is, I travel so much, I'm not sure exactly when I can do it right now. I'm probably looking at not this week but maybe the next. I wish that I could have just went and got it yesterday but the insurance had to "authorize" it which is something new with my insurance so while I could have gotten the results yesterday, thanks to my insurance, it may be well into two weeks before I can do it. Is there any other option besides surgery if there is a tear in there? Would I know if it was torn all the way?

No have not gotten an MRI..was suppose to but had to reschedule and haven't done that yet. I just wanted to know where "referred" pain could be with a bad shoulder. Like I have pain (mild) in the neck area...my other arm (good one) gets tired easily it seems because it starts to hurt after awhile. I try and use that arm more than I usually do so that I don't hurt the bad one anymore. I have heard of some real horror stories on people that have had rotator/shoulder surgery and it doesn't sound like something I want to even entertain at this point. Too much post surgery problems from what I have heard and read. The thing is, it's probably pretty rare that someone comes out way better than when they went in and that's just a chance I don't think I want to take. Am I in pain? Yep, but I have a pretty high pain tolorence level. so, I don't know...:(

i can understand your fear,we all have our own, believe me. while there is a risk of catching "something' there ARE very strict protocals about cleaning and sanitation. all gurneys have to be fully sterilized before they can go back into use again. and everything in your bed is fully sanitized too. the matresses are all covered in a plastic type of material, not like your matress at home. everything has to be able to be fully sanitized and disindfected before it can be used again.

now,as far as the actual anesthesia for THIS particular surgery? i actually had mine done while awake. i have sympathetic damage in my face from spinal cord injury and had just had a bad reaction with a spontaneous pain syndrome that developed in the right side of my upper and lower jaw,JUST from having one tooth drilled an filled on the upper right a week before my surgery. i can get this insane stuff just from the SNS damage, its really insane let me tell ya. but becasue of the risks(can just hit teeth and could have created more problems for me than i already had) with intubation, when i told the anesthesiologist about this issue,he told me that since the do do a full scalene block before the surgery in the shoulder area, that i could have this awake, just sedated with fentanyl and versed. believe it or not, everything went extremely well(slept thru almost all of it) and i did not even have to go into the recovery room or have to 'come out' of anesthesia. i felt really good after the actual surgery. they shot me right up to my room right from the OR. this is just one option with the rotator repair surgery that really did help in me not having to go thru the usual surgical crap.

they simply do that block right at the neck area, not really painful, they numb everything first(along with a big kick of the fent and versed before they do it),but this fully blocks that entire arm and the shoulder so you just don;t "feel'. your arm is like dead there for a while. i just couldn't believe that this was an actual option and how much better i felt after this surgery than the five others i had had to have before it. i too have had anesthesia issues before too but that was a awhile ago when they used to use something different. how long ago was your last experience with the anesthesia reactions? they DO have different meds they can use now, they have different options than they used to. all you have to do is let the anesthsiologist know, and they will take it from there. do you remember the actual name of the anti nausea med they gave you before? they also have different options for that too.

but we are way ahead of ourselves here. you really do just need to know exactly whats going on in your shoulder. whatever does or does not actually show would realistically dictate just what needs to be done. it could be some form of PTor it could need surgery. you just really need to know now vs later, trust me on that one. but you DO have some better surgical options than they used to have. if i had to do another shoulder surgery on my left one since it is getting bad too,i would do the awake thing all over again in a heartbeat. it just really went okay and i DID feel soo much better than i would do if i had the "normal" anesthesia. no recoverery room and not feeling like crap either. that part was great. i was wide awake(and starving) by the time they wheeled me out of that OR and got up to my room, bypassing that recovery room alltogether. just some info for ya. I know how things "should" be as far as cleanliness in a hospital but these days, hired help is not something to write home about ya know? I have a friend who had surgery and they wheeled her up to her room and before she got into her bed, there was blood on the sheets and on the railing and she asked to be moved to another room which of course they did but can you imagine???! The thing is, you don't know what's underneath the bedding and the few times that I have been in the ER, I always look at the pillows and yes, there have been stains and that in itself just grosses me out! So, that's why I have the sanitary fear thing going. The other thing was that the Dr did say that I would be put out for the surgery if I had to have it. Not a good thing for me. The thing is, this Dr makes me feel like just another number so he can collect a check. He is not personable at all. I know, find another Dr. There aren't that many Ortho surgeons around this area unless I want to travel a bit far away plus, my insurance has gone up which means instead of paying a 15.00 office visit, now it's $40 and that can get rather expensive just trying to find a good Dr. ya know what I mean? I don't know. This is all so frustrating. I'm thinking about doing the MRI sometime next week. The pain hasn't been too bad, but I have been pretty careful too but when it goes the wrong way...yep...it hurts like hell! But anyway, I will let you know what the MRI says and then just go from there I guess. Take care and I hope you feel much better soon!!!
