Recently, i saw a few episodes of the 6th season of the 2003 TMNT called TMNT Fast Forward. I know there is actually some hatred of this season mainly because it abandoned the main story line and went for storylines fitting the future they were in. There were some good things about it including some nifty sci-fi ideas.
The nifty ideas were..
1. The future itself. The city of New New York is actually beautiful. It's much more colorful and neon it's past self. I like colorful futures as much as the grimdark ones. New New York (NNY) is a VEERRY fun place to be in the future with technology not developed yet. I also like the marvel of engineering of building a city over a city. In the show they claim New Manhattan is built on top of the old one. It is a very big engineering feat to do this.
2. The idea of human/mutant/alien interspecies relationships. Not just the minor cult Starlee/Cody relationship but the relationships between the species living in New York. I would have loved to see some complexity on that. I like to see how they got to be where they were. I don't buy the "President Bishop negotiated and all the aliens became our friends" There had to been some turmoil.
3. The ideas of space transport in that series. One idea i like was using a beam of energy to zap spaceships to the moon. That could be a good idea in some good sci-fi movie/book. I also like that space travel is conducted like our air and rail transit.
Should this season have actually been an original series that didn't have the ninja turtles in it? It would be it's own show with all new characters and an original storyline You could keep some of the characters like the street phantoms, Uncle Darius and even Starlee Hambrath. The main character doesn't have to be Cody O'Neil but someone else. It would have nothing to do with the Ninja Turtles.
