Should TMNT: Fast Forward (The 6 season) have been a seperate show...

Recently, i saw a few episodes of the 6th season of the 2003 TMNT called TMNT Fast Forward. I know there is actually some hatred of this season mainly because it abandoned the main story line and went for storylines fitting the future they were in. There were some good things about it including some nifty sci-fi ideas.

The nifty ideas were..

1. The future itself. The city of New New York is actually beautiful. It's much more colorful and neon it's past self. I like colorful futures as much as the grimdark ones. New New York (NNY) is a VEERRY fun place to be in the future with technology not developed yet. I also like the marvel of engineering of building a city over a city. In the show they claim New Manhattan is built on top of the old one. It is a very big engineering feat to do this.

2. The idea of human/mutant/alien interspecies relationships. Not just the minor cult Starlee/Cody relationship but the relationships between the species living in New York. I would have loved to see some complexity on that. I like to see how they got to be where they were. I don't buy the "President Bishop negotiated and all the aliens became our friends" There had to been some turmoil.

3. The ideas of space transport in that series. One idea i like was using a beam of energy to zap spaceships to the moon. That could be a good idea in some good sci-fi movie/book. I also like that space travel is conducted like our air and rail transit.

Should this season have actually been an original series that didn't have the ninja turtles in it? It would be it's own show with all new characters and an original storyline You could keep some of the characters like the street phantoms, Uncle Darius and even Starlee Hambrath. The main character doesn't have to be Cody O'Neil but someone else. It would have nothing to do with the Ninja Turtles.

I thought it was since the way it started, there was no continuity to the Ninja Tribunal at the beginning, only their 3rd lair.

Well I think that if season five was not shortened, skipped, and "lost" and Fast Forward was placed where it should have been as the sixthed season it would have been better received.

TKnHappyNess there is continuty to the tribunal arc in fast forward, the Episode "The journal"

Should TMNT:FF have been it's own series? Absolutely not. Looking back at it now, I think it does done pretty well. It wasn't bad to have for just one season. But honestly I don't think it would've made too much sense to have as it's own series. The only way that TMNT:FF would've worked as its own show is if you remove the whole time travel part. They would've been mutated and have spent their whole lives already in the future.

I should have detailed that the ninja turtles would not be in it. This would be it's own show about that future with all new characters and it's own story line, villians and continuity. There would be no time-travel as the whole series would start and end in that future.

Fast Forward could conceivably have worked, even without the Ninja Turtles at the helm. However, if the Turtles hadn't been used, it may have been a good idea to have 1 or more characters from our time (the present day) in the main cast to serve as audience avatars. This way, this character could be introduced to this strange new future along with us (the audience). This essentially is the purpose that Fry served on Futurama.

While a lot of people don't like Fast Forward, I actually enjoyed it, even though it was more light-hearted than the previous seasons (I even have both DVD sets to Fast Forward).

Not to mention that Serling is awesome! :anime:

Could Batman Beyond have been a different show, if you replaced Batman and Bruce? Yes.

I see Fast Forward as a more kid-friendly version of Batman Beyond. Remove the protagonists we know, and it could be any other superhero show.

Without the Turtles, it wouldn't even necessarily had to have been a superhero show; it could've easily been a "slice of life" comedy set in the future, like a kid-friendly Futurama.

Why does it have to have someone from our time? Why not use someone in that time. The whole fish out of water thing could wear thin after about one season. It would paint the series into a corner. Using someone from tha time would be a better idea.

Why can't it be a action/comedy not necessarily a superhero show. It could be something in the kin of loonatics where they weren't superheroes but part of the time.

I like the bright, neon and chipper future it protrays. I like the neon designed technology and the colorful, strange alien people who live in it. It's a break from the grimdark futures of other sci-fi shows like Battlestar Galatica(2005) and Blade Runner.

I honestly don't see how that would work. Anyway, the "fish out of water" premise never seemed to slow down Futurama. We'll just have to agree to disagree on that one.

In fact, it wouldn't even have to be an action/comedy. It could just be straight up funny. We don't get too many shows like that anymore. Most producers want action series so they can sell action figures and vehicles.

Interesting idea, although the world as seen would need a lot of retooling before it'd became a viable concept for a stand-alone series. For one, Cody Jones has enough Mary Sue traits as a supporting character that he would have to be almost completely rewritten before he'd be ready for the lead.

More promising, I feel, would have been a TMNT spin-off focusing on 2105 after their departure--that I feel could have worked quite nicely.
