Should I install an alarm system?

I have a 99 saturn sl2 car. Like 9 months back some one broke into my car and stole my radio face plate. From that day onwards I was thinkin of installing an alarm system but didint had the cash. What do you think?

PS
As usual the car have small mechanical issues, Should I install an alarm or save that money for future repairs?
