Should I get a Kawasaki ninja250R?

I just recently turned 18, just starting college, so of course my mind is thinking ahead about my future.

Now I don't really have any money (working on getting a job right now) but I found out about how cheap motorcycles are.

After reading reviews and prices I decided that I really want a ninja 250R, it only costs 3500 and it gets 61 MPG! with today's gas prices I would save a ton of money with that kind of mileage.

But I live in pennsylvania, its not uncommon for it to rain, and in the winter the roads get icy / snowy.

So does anyone have an opinion on if this would be a good investment? I would have a car also for days that i cant ride but I figured the MPG would save me enough money it wouldn't matter.
 
I was thinking about getting one too, but I've sorta changed my mind to getting a used Ninja 650 instead. Reason becauseeee, the 250's are harder to get now, and despite the MSRP that used to be 3,500$, it's now at 4,000$ for a 2009 and because the bikes are harder to get, dealers are using that to their advantage and trying to get over 5,000$ for the bikes. It would be a good investment, just watch what they try to throw at you as far as prices and dealer fees go.
 
ill keep it short. dont get a 250. take the class and get a 600. once you get a bike you want to drive faster than a 250 can take you. i would start with an sv650. those are great beginner bikes and have more power than a 250. trust me. the only 250 that is worth looking at is the 08. those look great but still don'thave too much power. go with a 600 after you take the class. MSF. then practice in an empty lot a couple times. then your good. but if you dont think your even gonna wanna ride fast then get a 250
 
Hey guess what I'm in college, I'm 19 and I'm in your shoes too, balancing paying for tuition, car payment, and finding the money and time to get a loan out for a bike.

Yes, the bike will eventually pay for itself in gas money. Especially if McCain gets elected, haha. PLEASE JESUS NO!

The only negative about the Ninja 250R is that it's a great commuter bike, but it won't satisfy your ego when you crave that bloodthristy, hellacious power.

Average male peaks testosterone at age 21. You're going to be hungry for that torque sooner or later.
