SHOCKING NEWS: 720p PS3 games downscale on older HD sets ***RANT***

Glad I waited and got a 1080P TV...glad I also didn't waste my money on yet another Sony product that proves they don't care about their customers.

If a game has a native output of 720p, the PS3 will only display it at 720p or 480p. If your TV only supports 480p and 1080i, it will display it in 480p.

That is another fucked up thing about the PS3. You might have a great fucking 1080p TV, but unless the PS3 game has a native output of 1080p (of which very few do), then you will be playing it at 720p. The PS3 can't upscale games to 1080p. Resistance, for example, is a 720p game, so when 1080p owners play it, they can only play it at 720p.

Meanwhile, on the 360, every game can be upconverted to 1080p.

PS3 = teh sux.

... and you have a? (post pics)

I'd be willing to bet my CRT based TV that doesn't support 720p has superior image quality to your TV. No pics? Then shut the fuck up.

no wonder resistance was running on 480p. We had ps3 set on 1080i , then the screen came up saying that resistance shold be ran on 720p. we decided not to do that so we just play it on 480p

sweet... let's spend $600 on an underperforming console, then have to spend more money to get said console to do what it really should be able to do out of the box.

(not bashing you, just the fact that you have to do this to get what you want out of the console)

meh, 720p and 1080i here. no worries for me. i saw that most PS3 games supported either 720p or 1080i and 720p, etc. but they always included one or the other. i can see how it';s fucked up, but if you have a newer tv then you have nothing to worry about. i'm sure sony will fix it.

another non-issue trying to be made an issue by pussyhrt faggots that didnt get a PS3

theres like 5 TVs in teh world that dont support 720p

not having enough 1080p games rght now is not a big deal to alot of people seeing how few people have 1080p sets right now. Hell, 1080p movies are still not even mainstream yet, so no one can really expect video game developers to develop in 1080p

actually this one is valid

ALOT of CRT HDTVs made as late as last year don't have 720p capabilitiy

(i.e. mitsubishis)

However, about 98% of LCD and DLP HDTVs will support 720p though

There is a lot more TV's than just 5 that don't support 720p. Are you just another pussy hurt sony fanboy upset that your system is being tarnished even more?

It doesn't matter to me as my TV is CRT based and does both 720p and 1080i.

I'm more upset that you cannot use the optical output and the AV output at the same time. Who wants to dive into the menu just to listen to sound on either the stereo or TV. Fucking nuts. The ps2 could do it just fine...

Hopefully both are fixed with a firmware update.

Oh, just found out another fucked up thing.

The Blu-Ray player will only output video in 480p, 1080i, or 1080p. It won't output in 720p, period. WTF is up with that bullshit??

So basically, if your HDTV is a 720p set, and doesn't have 1080i/p, Blu-Ray video will display in 480p, since 720p isn't supported.

So:

Games = no 1080i
Blu-Ray movies = no 720p

Good fucking job Sony.
