It's time for another game of "Count the references to previous Gainax works)
1. One of the demons reaching out to Makina (the one we could actually see) looked like the splitting image of Viral.
2. Keisei has a Vespa. Need I say more?
So now that its sub...I mean, now that my "magic" is at "full power" we come to the show that I've been anticipating for the better part of the summer. First and foremost, I'm going to agree with a previous poster and say that this is most likely Gainax's "rest" series after the awesomeness of Gurren Lagaan as the story seems a little more mysterious (NOT EVA MYSTERIOUS, CALM DOWN) than usual. There is (so far) no philisophical messages, no phallic imagery, and, sadly, apparantly no Gainax bounce.
I'm gonna give everybody a minute to take that in (though to be fair Makina is pretty cute...in a dead person sort of way)
Makina is pretty awesome. She's obviously a deadpan snarker but has that air of constant depression. Not so much as its annoying as it is that it looks like there's always something on her mind. Oh and she kicks serious ass. I mean it. She was owning some serious undead-vampire butt there with her two guns. So much so that I bet she could give Revy from Black Lagoon a run for her money.
As for the male protagonist, Ouri, he's fine. So far, he seems to be the most normal male guy I've ever seen in a Gainax show. Even still we don't know much about him outside that he doesn't seem to be afraid of death. Well, he's not gar like Simon, not wimpy like that kid from Mahoromatic and not emo like Shinji/kamina's death Simon so that's pretty good.
I'll be following this series and keeping you posted. Check it out.
BTW, the ED has a very pretty song.
