Series 60 flip-phone

Hey gang...

I currently have a Nokia 6600, with service from T-Mobile. Over the time I've had it I've come to be quite fond of the Series 60 platform; I've loaded up my phone with a bunch of nice software that really makes it more pleasant to use.

I can't say I've had the same pleasant experiences with the phone's form factor, though. The 6600 is big enough to feel clunky, and its candy-bar design means I have to always remember to lock the keypad when I drop the phone into my pocket, or it starts randomly dialing people in my address book if it gets bumped the wrong way. Not cool.

So I'm trying to find what seems like would be the perfect phone: an S60 device in the flip-phone style, rather than candy-bar. This appears to be easier said than done, though: I can't find any devices fitting this description in T-Mobile's lineup, and other carriers seem similarly deficient. The only exceptions are super expensive Nokia E-series devices, and I can't justify shelling out $400.

So, I come to the experts for advice. Anyone know of a decent, inexpensive, Series 60 flip phone you can get in the USA?

The only inexpensive one is the 6260, but you'll get varying opinions on whether or not it's actually a decent phone. Alot of people seem to have a problem with the way the phone was designed, the softkeys are on the upper part of the flip so you have to move your hand in order to reach them. Combine that with the size of the phone and you have a relatively major flaw in the design

Have you considered the Panasonic X800? It's an old-ish phone but it's an eye catcher for it's slimness and it's rare-ish. It also runs S60, one of the few phones that isn't a Nokia to do so.

I don't think I've ever seen the X800. Are there any carriers that still offer it? Or do you have to scrounge Ebay?

And regarding the Nokia N75 -- is that even out yet in the USA? My impression was that it wasn't... which is too bad, because it looks sweet

Well- Where I live it's still on SOME store shelves, although it's more of a "bargain bin" thing now. I can find it for under $200 in some places. I'm living in China, though, so you'll probably have to scrounge eBay if you aren't. Also, I think Samsung makes a S60 flip, if I remember correctly (That or it was the X800 I saw someone use on the bus- it didn't look like a Nokia was all O remember).

I have the X700 (well my fiance uses it) and it's a decent phone. The camera is definitely crappy compared to today's devices, but it's the same OS as the 6600. You can pick one up under $200, maybe even new on Ebay. However, some of your favorite programs may not be compatible. Although Panasonic never released their own SDK since it was almost identical to the 6600 OS, we've had compatability issues with some of our applications running on the X700 & the X800.

The X800 as someone already mentioned will definitely be more of an eye catcher, the X700 shares the same shell as the X70, which is fairly common.
