Whilst it would be nice of Mr Connery would give us a final great swan song, I can't blame him for not wanting to continue at his age. They compare him to Clint but, Clint has kept going by producing and directing his own material. Connery is not a director and cannot do this.
He actually did the aforementioned animation because it required little effort on his part. A live action movie requires a lot more-maybe Sean has quite naturally not got that kind of energy anymore.
Seriously, when he was offered the Matrix could you imagine him at that time approaching 70 years of age doing all the martial arts nonsense?
Those that say he was a fool to turn down Lord of the Rings should consider that it probably appeared on the page as just another fantasy film, directed by a horror film director most people outside the film biz hadn't heard of. Sean has probably been offered enough of those and before production would have had no idea that this one would actually come good.
Before it was made as a film Lord of the Rings at that point in time it had zero street cred. Infact it was something of a laughing stock, seen only as something enjoyed by role playing game beardy weirdies.
The League of Gentleman based on Alan Moore's supposedly hip comic, sorry "graphic novel," was the darling of various magazines and press-I've seen everything from the NME to the Guardian to (the now defunct style mag) THE FACE rave about it. Probably had a far better "buzz" around it. Hence why Connery made the mistake of starring in it.
