Sean Connery "Best Bond"

It's a shame, because Ian Fleming wrote the James Bond books with Roger Moore in mind should his stories come to the big screen, but in the early years Moore was contracted to play "The Saint" in the TV series. Later Roger Moore did play the part.

James Bond was supposed to be a typical English gentleman, so I don't really know how an Irishman was the best Bond.

Sean Connery's Scottish, Pierce Brosnan is Irish and George Lazenby was born in Australia so in truth few of them have been very English!

The question was:

"Who is the best James Bond for you? "

To which I replied None, because, beleive it or not, it's all crap.

None or "Null" as the romans called it, is a perfectly legitimate answer to a question.

How about you contribute to the thread instead of "bothering" me.

Whilst I've heard this rumour too, the only person Fleming had publicly acknowledged having in mind was Christopher Lee as Dr No.

I think all the BonRAB were good for their time. Each brought something different to the role.

I agree about the unfair press on George Lazenby. I think he played the role very naturally. And the final scene brings a tear to my eye every time!

I think Daniel Craig will do far better than people are giving him credit for. I think people should watch his film before condemning him as "not Bond."

I know what you mean. Casino Royale wasn't that good was it? Oh hang on, it isn't even out yet. I get it, you're basing your comments on nothing whatsoever.

Yes, but the first movies weren't made until the 1960's. There has been much speculation of who Fleming wanted to play the part of Bond - Cary Grant, David Niven, Roger Moore, but one thing is known for sure - he wasn't keen on Connery ! Connery was Cubby Broccoli's favourite for the part.

(P.S. Connery was a Scot, not Irish - I'm surprised nobody noticed that one :D )

Sean Connery for me. It wasn't just that he was the best (and coolest) Bond ever, but the films were much better made then too. I love all of the Bond films, and ones like Goldeneye are great, but how can that ever be compared to the likes of Dr No, From Russia With Love and, the best of all, Goldfinger? Those were some of the greatest films ever made. And as for cool, just look at Sean's expression when he is at the card table at the start of Dr No. Cool? He is ice-cold. Fantastic!

I think Sean Connery far & away the best James Bond.I did
not 'take'to Roger Moore or Timothy Dalton--there was one
film with George Lazenby (Pure Crap) the nearest to original
Bond---Sean---is Pierce Brosnan. He has a certain attitude as
the original Sean did. :) :) :) :)

I think that Brosnan was a great Bond. I think the problem is the only James Bond movie that i thought was fantastic with Brosnan in was Goldeneye, the other films he starred in were mediocre.
