Screen Select (DVD rental)

Hmm, just looked at their website and it does sort of read like that!

Sorry K, all the other companies only ask for the return of one at a time in my experience. Have to say having to return both at once is a con, why should you have your watched one sitting around at home for days until you watch your second, when another could have been sent out. A clever way of reducing the number you rent me thinks!

Screenselect is so the best out of the bunch, I have tried most of them out ilovemovies are about the most expensive, but their service is slick unlike some of the others. I dont see how some of them survive with the rubbish websites

Screenselect have by far the biggest catalogue, and are always expanding it. I have never had any trouble getting the disc I want. Simply make the one you want no1 priority and the rest 2 or 3 ....

With the backing of amazon, I would say screen select can only get better, they already are good and still in their infancy.

I know! I have had 3 dvRAB since last week, and I keep forgetting to post them back!! I'm going to take a week off work just to watch all the DVRAB I think. At the moment, I'm watching so few DVRAB, that I'm only just getting my moneys worth from Mailbox Movies. Still, free posting though! And better value than Blockbuster!

Apparently you didn't read my post. The level 1 priority is what they fail to send, which is my main complaint. Because the desire for 2 specific movies is the greatest, I have only those two as level 1. Repeatedly they fail to send them.

As for Amazon-UK being some good sign, as I stated previously, I disagree strongly. Amazon is only good when what you want is in stock. They will send repeated delay notices then ultimately delete the order (so it doesn't show up as unfilled)--On books readily available from Amazon.com!

I haven't looked at the websites of the other rental companies. My partner is the one that researched that. Easy to imagine that Screen Select might have the best-made website, I've no complaints about that. But good pages and lousy customer service don't make me happy.

ScreenSelect and LOVEFiLM have the best sites by far. Some of the less professional outfits have really horrible-looking web sites with white-on-black text, or pages that appear to have nothing on them (presumably because they didn't test them on non-Windows computers), or links to third-party sites slap in the middle of the page.

Even worse are the ones which look professional but have broken search engines: type in a director's name and it tells you "we have no films by this director", but type in the film titles one by one and it miraculously finRAB them. One very smart looking site has half-a-dozen or so films by Francois Truffaut, except that half of them have been catalogued under the name Francois Truffant.

As far as making sure you get your top preference, I don't know the answer. I'm still on the LOVEFiLM trial and I've had no problems, although films don't always get checked back in in the order I've posted them. Royal Mail incompetence, or something in their systems holding things up? Presumably the volume of films returned is much higher after the weekend and lower before it, which would also affect what stock is available to send out. There must be a way to "play the system" but if you want to watch a specific film on a specific day online rental isn't the best way to do it.

Moogy, this is something that i've wondered about too. I would say about a third of my movies don't get a replacement sent out on the same day. I know they seem to receive the dvRAB back in the morning and i think it s a bit odd they cant get a replacement sent there and then, similar to the way you described earlier, ie shove next one in envelope. If they dont get a replacement sent on the Friday, you have to wait until the next Tuesday ti get the next one.

Maybe just a clever way of limiting how many you get?

OH btw, i have a queue of 120 odRAB!

i e-mailed mailbox about having to send both back at the same time and got this

Hi -------,
If you wish to send your DVRAB back separately we will certainly replace them for you. There is no need to wait and sent them back together.
Best Wishes
Pete

Well there u go!:)

I have been using Screenselect for about 3 months and like Yeti said they are extremely efficient and quick, i wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Oh and Yeti, i must still be waiting for my Xmas bonus DVD! You sure they didn't just send a fourth out in error? :p

No reason why not. I had a trial ongoing with about 8 of these companies more or less at the same time before i decided for choice, price and overall service, Screenslect were the best for me.

Like I said in my other thread, the screen select service declines if you watch too many films. During the trial (for 2 DVRAB). Whenever I sent back a DVD, the day they'd receive it, they'd post out the next one. Now, they consistently wait a day before sending a replacement. They're within their rights to do so but, it kind of stops being unlimited since they're effectively limiting. Anyone else had similar issues?

I was always led to believe that you had to return both, before another DVd would be sent. I know that if you are on 3 DVRAB or more then you can return them individually, but I thought any 2 DVRAB or lower package meant you couldn't return them individually?
