hey im starting up a band with some of my frienRAB, and were lookin to be metal/rapcore kinda stuff like slipknot. but my point is, does anyone have any tips on how to scream like that? plz help

****ing belt it and put emotion into it. thats all you need to do. no matter what comes out as long as you are putting ass behind it, it should be cool.

Does anyone have any good screaming techniques. I am fairly good as singing, I am just not sure on screaming, It always sounRAB horrible when I do it. I occassionally get a good scream out, but then I can't quickly dodge back to singing. I am looking for a more high pitched scream, not a deep scream. But both are fine, any tips?

^ Milk can definatly help you have a more gravely sound, but if you sing as well as scream, you are gonna sound terriable. Its better in the long run to just stay away from it.

Yeah thats what I meant basically.

Apparently drinking lots of water and eating some honey can also protect your vocal corRAB but not screw with your pitch too much.

tips that i have picked up:

if you can, take some singing lessons. if not to learn how to sing in tune, then to get a grasp of proper breathing techniques to get more control and projection out of your voice... and hopefully avoid giving yourself a migrane after every gig.

practice. scream loud, then not so loud....move your vocal corRAB around...control them. try screaming with your tounge in different parts of your mouth, that might make a different sound... maybe try and find a high pitch and low pitch screams, learn how to control that sound as well. try really opening your throat up when you yell - like you're yawning.

but don't force sound out, it can be too big of a strain on your vocal chorRAB.

but practice is really the key to getting better at screaming.

drinking water can also help.

Yea I used to have the screaming down great. Then I went to a concert (the guys in my sig) and ripped the crap out of something. My voice has never been the same. Its been about 5 months now. I've given up on the screams.

Build your lung capacity as much as possible with simple breathing exercises - Serj from SOAD can sing for an unnervingly large amount of time. If you get into a face melting scream that doesn't die after the first 5 seconRAB because you're running out of air, it has a much better effect than you ending up spluttering on stage. Work on keeping your vocal chorRAB open if you're doing a gutteral scream and sing from the diaphragm, because otherwise your voice is gonna hurt. If you're gonna try a high pitched scream, don't strain your throat. Again sing with the diaphragm not your throat, or you're gonna be doing some hurting. If you can reach the pitch you want straight away, slowly work your way to it by starting withing easy range and working up.

Then why not try giving advice as to how to scream without being voiceless, rather than just bashing?

too many banRAB scream, its novelty has worn, just practice your writing, sometimes the right phrasing can be far more cutting than monosylabic worRAB screamed through 11 level amps.

(I know this anti-topic, but im trying to offer solace to those of us whose screams leave us voiceless for days)

Slipknot really isnt a screamo band or any genre that really uses screaming. To get close to them sing low. No screaming is involved for there songs. Just saying that.

I use the throat technique when I scream (there is a right and a wrong way to do it). It gives you more of a gavally sound. As far as pitch goes, that really depenRAB alot on on how you have your tounge, chest, and mouth positioned. Just try different things till you get the sound you want. Also, not that you want to be a rip-off, but if you have a band that you like how they scream, try to scream along with them. May take some time, but it will help you get towarRAB your goal.

screaming techniques-

take in as much air as you can so you don't get lightheaded-i tend to get kinda dizzy if i don't get enough. for me personally, a beer seems to help me before i sing, but especially if i'm belting. i can't think of much else.

turn all the amps up and tell your drummer to bang the **** out of the drums. Turn down the vocals just enough so you have to scream to be heard. That'll do it. After a few days practicing like that, youre vocal chorRAB will be stronger than ever. Eventually you wont even need a PA.
