Scott Pilgrim vs The World

It looks good fun. The main draw with the trailer seems to be comic/old-school game effects/sounRAB in the "real" world :)
The girl reminRAB me of Clem from Eternal Sunshine (must be the hair).

The more I think about it the more I love it is the little things like when the VS. sign comes up before the fight. And when the ex's turn into credits.

I found it ok, got a tad boring near the end, but I think the video game style was done well and there are loaRAB of video games in-jokes, like "Sex Bob-omb", ( a bob-omb is the name of a bomb in the super mario series if anybody didnt know)

Must have been a different trailer then. But surely all of them referenced the main points of the film, like Scott having to defeat the seven evil exes, that kind of thing. And the poster campaign made it pretty clear what kind of film it was going to be, too.

It's not doing too well according to Box Office Mojo. 5th place for the weekend with $10.5 million, and behind 'Inception' still. By comparison, the similarly "geek" orientated 'Kick Ass' made nearly double that and is still widely recognised (unfairly) as somewhat of a flop.

Obviously, ticket sales don't reflect quality, but it seems that the endlessly irritating internet buzz hasn't exactly worked for the film...

I've just got back from watching it. I wasn't expecting to like it if i'm being honest, but it did surprise me by being pretty good. It wasn't "amazing" by any stretch of the imagination though, and i think people expecting this to be the next 'Fight Club' (i.e. make a mint on DVD/Blu Ray after flopping at the box office) will be in for a disappointment as it's very much a cult film, aimed squarely at a certain type of person, definitely not something that was ever intended to be mainstream. The only bit i really didn't like was the cringeworthy bit where Evil Ex #1 started singing, i actually shuddered...

Overall though i did enjoy it.

And for the record, i much prefer Kick Ass in terms of this years "geek films".

I am a geek/gamer but it left me cold. I actually felt it would be a better film without the fighting which gets tedious after the first couple of exes and seems incongruous to what is otherwise a sweet romance with neat fantasy touches.
I think the issue is that Scott - a result of Cera's performance perhaps - doesn't seem to think that boiling down his love life to a video game is sensible either which undermines the idea or a a guy who can't deal with his issues without abstracting them into a videogame scenario.
I'm sure the comics make the idea work better.

LOL yes, this irritated me also.

As someone above me said, you take out the video game effects and this movie is basically Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist.

It seemed to have a good premise but so many pitfalls

Too many characters made the film a bit disjointed and a lot of them seemed either pointless [Stacey, tho I liked her and Neil] or just unfunny [Kym]. Wallace and Knives are redeeming factors in the movie though.

The fight scenes go on for way too long and get really tedious after awhile. Ramona, or perhaps it's just the actress, is not a very likable female lead and she and Cera - playing the same role for I think, the sixth time now? - make it really hard to care about them as a couple. The plot is wafer thin at times.

My friend who is really into gaming and comics e joyed it though so maybe the fact all that isn't really my thing detracted from my enjoyment of the movie.

saw this last night really didn't like it

completely ruined by the fact the 2 leaRAB, m cera and me wanstead, are so absolutely unlikeable

Yip, it's been getting pretty excellent positive reviews from all across the board however that isn't translating very well to putting bums on seats so Scott Pilgrim vs The World is very much going to be a 'cult' film. Shame. It deserves a far wider audience.
