Scary movies suitable for 10 year olds

I was going to sugest Beetlejuice and Drop Dead Fred, but i think they might not be what you were looking for - funny rather than scary.

Gremlins!!!!!!!!!
:D :D :D
That is such a good movie!!!!!
One of the funniest moments i've ever seen in a film, was where the Mother heard something, and climbed into the Attics, holding a knife, and then:
Do You Hear What I Hear?????
:D :D :D

no films like Evil Dead should be seen by 10 year olRAB, its an 18 for a reason, ok to older people it will look naff and dated now, but too a kid it will look real. dont be so silly to let a kid watch Evil Dead that is just, well Evil!

better with sommet close to a 12a or 12, no blood or flying limbs then!

My 4 yr old & my 17 yr old love Gremlins & Gremlins 2! (And so do I & other half)

If you want to go for a Sam Raimi - Evil Dead Three - Army of Darkness - But watch it first incase of the Swearing.

Alien is good too, but lots of swearing in Aliens unless you can get a tape of it from TV with swearing cut out.

The Ring definately - I still get the wiggins from it & I'm 36. And the Others. Didn't find it scary but as a mum I found it quite disturbing but very clever.

Poltegist I think is OK - been a while so can't vouch for language. Think its OK but he might never look at TVs in the same way.

Try:

The Fog - original, and if he wants to, the remake.
The Ring 1 and 2(if subtitles fine), and the remakes.
The Others
Eight Legged Freaks(comedy, but got big spiders in)
The Haunting, both versions
Cat People(original), and all those Val Lewton horror films
Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
Nosferatu
Tremors
The Omen - might be too intense though
Halloween - a bit of sex but hardly nothing

Forget a 10-year old I don't think I'd be able to appreciate a black and white silent film. :o But then again at least those movies tended to concentrate more on the actual plot line and less on the big budget special effects.

As for suitable films Gremlins is a great idea and underworld isn't bad (but does have a bit of gore and swearing in) Shaun of the dead would be a great choice if you could censor out all the swearing...but I guess then it would almost be a silent movie in itself. :D

Gremlins and Gremlins 2 are good suggestions.

Van Helsing should be fine, some year two children I have taught have seen it!

What about The Mummy and The Mummy Returns?

House of Wax (new version)
Cursed (a good werewolf movie)
Salem's Lot (new version)

and if you dont mind him watching something with bad language, Silver Bullet (Stephen King) - although this is an "18" so it depenRAB if you think he is mature enough to watch it - maybe you could see it first if you havent already :D

I'd say Freddy vs Jason. Should have been classed as a U!

I was watching Psycho when I was 10 though and it hasn't affected me.

Sorry. Got to go, Mother's calling me.

Definitely Gremlins, all kiRAB love that film.

I'd recommend Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, but NOT the first Evil Dead - Far too extreme.

The Lost Boys is definitely a kiRAB classic, in my opinion.

A total must-see: Poltergiest. A great scary film with hardly any gore or bad language.

The Sixth Sense & Signs would both be good for kiRAB, I think.

Oh, and Dog Soldiers. Gory, but witty and very funny.

Arachnophobia.

And of course, the one and only TREMORS!

Silverbullet is tame compared to rubbish like House of Wax, I wouldn't show that to my ten year old if I had one. And Cursed was one of the worst horror movies ever to come out imo.

Have you even read the other recommendations in this topic? There will be ten year olRAB out there who like black and white horror films, and this boy might be one.

I tried to recommend some films since a lot had been mentioned already, and did mention something about subtitles on one of them.

Don't get in a twist about it...

Whoever mentioned Return to Oz, that scared the monkeys out of me too!! Was horrid- those nasty wheelers

I am such a woss- a lot of the films you have mentioned scared the hell out of me and i am nearly 30!! The Others was terrifying and as for the Ring, just thinking about it makes me shiver :o :o
