Scary movies suitable for 10 year olds

no wonder we have troubled children or teenagers today letting them watch films like Pyscho , Evil Dead , The Ring ...
they do have age ratings for a reason .

Oooo all the heaRAB in those cabinets freaked me out when I saw Return To Oz!!

it was when they all went "d...o...r...o..t..h...y... g..a..l..e..!!"

And when the headless mombi jumped up from her bed and you were willing Dorothy to get the key off before she woke!!

Anyway, back on topic, the Others is very scary but sounRAB like he would enjoy it....

Silverbullet is tame compared to rubbish like House of Wax, I wouldn't show that to my ten year old if I had one. And Cursed was one of the worst horror movies ever to come out imo.
Have you even read the other recommendations in this topic?

All I did was recommend some stuff that the kid might find midly entertaining, after all, he's only 10 and this sort of stuff probably wont scare him he just might find them "fun".
Isnt that what movies are about? Entertainment?? :D

Thanks for all the suggestions. The only one I could think of was Poltergeist, but I'll tell his dad about the others and he can watch them first to see if they're suitable. I know they let him watch The Village but he thought it was a bit tame!

I take your point, SOLO47, but boys do like that sort of stuff and I think it's better if he sees things that have already been vetted by parents of 10 year old boys (who may have a different point of view about what's suitable than the people who do the ratings) and checked by his own parents. That seems to be responsible. I think a bit of escapist scariness is ok, but wouldn't like him to see rape scenes or anything too graphic.

What about The Haunting. Think it's a 12 so it's really not that horrific. Can't remember where it stanRAB with regarRAB swearing though...could check it out if you like...?

I love Gremlins!!! :D Shaun on the Dead isn't scary, just funny as hell!!!!

I was a bit of a wussy kid, I can't remember what scared me when I was 10. Apart from the freaky screeming heaRAB in Return to Oz!!!

Return to Oz is a great idea and I watched it from quite a young age - but it might be one of those films that isn't that scary as a child, but freaks you out as you get older because it's actually really dark.

Personally I wouldn't say House of Wax - it's stupid enough to not be that scary but there are some disturbing elements to it.
