Scariest Moments in animation

Yeah, really. I mean, when that was on Cartoon Network and I didn't quite expect it (only half-watching and all that), it was REALLY unnerving. I changed the channel. It was like, ick. I mean, when you know it's coming, it's a great sequence, but when it's just, bam, there... yeah. Not something I'm a fan of.

That scene always makes me laugh because back when I was a teen and my little cousin was a tot, he'd always run around like a chicken with it's head cut off when that scene would come on. I always joke with him now because of how freaked out it used to make him.

I always thought The Pink Elephants sequence from Dumbo was both interesting from an artistic standpoint but very, VERY bizarre.

There are others that fail to reach my mind as of now, but one moment sticks out currently: the entire West Wing sequence from Beauty And The Beast.

I can't even listen to that part of Alan Menken's wonderful score!

The Batman:TAS episode "Growing Pains" seriously disturbed me the first time I saw it.
On screen deaths are rare in cartoons. And, even in action/superhero shows, violence against girls/women was censored back then. So seeing a cute, defenseless young girl get viciously murdered by Clayface right there on screen was really shocking. Especially after the entire episode focused on developing her character and making Robin (and the audience) feel for her.

Surprised Toy Story 3 hasn't been mentioned yet.

The incinerator scene freaked me out, and I am fifteen. I can't even imagine what three-year-olds were going through. When Woody tries to find a way out and Jesse asks Buzz what to do and he gives her that look, and they hold hands except for Woody. Woody then realizes there is no way out, and accepts his death with the other toys. I had completely forgot about the LGMs, so this scene scared me, because the LGMs literally had the only way out.

As a kid I was terrified of the episode of Spongebob, Rock Bottom. The whole atmosphere of Spongebob Being alone in a dark and strange town with even stranger creatures freaked me out, well, up until he started communicating with the Information booth guy. Then I started laughing.

And speaking of The Prince of Egypt, the river of blood and the first borns dying gave me chills. Yeah, it was scary, but I couldn't find myself turning away from the tv either.

Quoting the above because my "scary moment" is also from a Care Bears movie, haha! The first movie: the one with the creepy book with the face in it that the boy finds in a circus tent. The ending part where the book is all evil and shouting things and the boy has to slam the book/face shut always creeped me out as a kid. XD; So much so I didn't rent that movie nearly as often as the other one. The whispery voice of the book I still find sort of unnerving. "Ni~cho~las...."

For me, it was the beginning of Aladdin. I had seen it on the big screen when I was 5, and the first scene with the Cave of Wonders had me whimpering in my seat. The deep, booming voice was probably what did it for me.

The "death" of the air conditioner from The Brave Little Toaster deserves mention as well. That angry rant it goes on while overheating, along with its facial expressions really got me.

The whole movie from the part where Unit 02's attacked on is about as pure nightmare fuel as animation or film in general really has gotten. Perfect Blue comes pretty close, though. Oh, and the last 30 seconds of Waltz With Bashir.

I think one of the creepiest moments in animation that I can remember growing up with was that episode of Rugrats: Angelica's Nightmare. As if a giant baby with a deep voice wasn't already unnerving, the fact that her parents had her sleep in the closet and forgot all about her still gets me today.

On Batman:TAS, when Bane is ready to 'splode.
