Scariest film, ever!!

The 2 films I have found scary were the shining and eyes wide shut, now I know the second one isn't a horror film but it's just the masks and that scary piano music, freaky as hell.

I'd go for a classic or two - don't just dive in at a recent horror film, or you simply won't enjoy them as much (films like 'Scream' require a deep knowledge of traditional horror/chillers to be fully apreciated). Go for an early 80s slasher if I were you. 'Halloween' is a masterpiece - I'd start there if I were you; John Carpenter's soundtrack is wonderful ('specially if you've got the DVD with 5.1 Dolby mix on :D )

The horror, the horror...

The single scariest scene for me would be the bit in 'Exorcist 3' where the nurse is going round the hospital late at night, checking doors and warRAB etc. and unknown to her, the THING suddenly crosses the corridor behind her with a pair of shears. It's very effectively filmed; from a stationary viewpoint, quite far from where the action takes place. Makes me shiver just thinking about it.
The kiRAB party scene in 'Signs' worked in a similar way.

One of my favourite creepy films is the 1982 film John Carpenter's The Thing. I first saw it when i was about 14 or 15 and it freaked me out.

It's an unsual film as it has only a small 12 man cast, set in an antarctic research station, creepy music by Ennio Morricone and excellent (for the time)special effects.

It's also got a great ending, although not a happy one, with two main characters surviving at the end, both realizing either one of them could be the Thing.

Give it a go if you haven't seen it. Be warned though, it's quite gory in parts (keep the light on).

Man is the warmest place to hide!

wow, that is EXACTLY the scene I always thought was scariest ever, too. She goes around the hospital is silence, from room to room. Lets the viewer relax as she disappears into the room on the right and BAM, tall figure with shears held at kneck height. Top stuff.

its an amazing film i really was scared.
i mean when it shos you Jasons History its really sad  and well the End is amazing and luckly the night that i watched it i was having a sleep over. so i did'nt fall asleep , so Freddy could'nt get in my Nightmares.

Evil dead is a good one - although make sure it is the original as Evil Dead II is effectively a 'camped up' remake of the first (although I, like many, perfer it to the original).

Am I right in thinking that "The Telephone Box" had the guy being towed away at the end and left in the middle of an outdoor warehouse full of phoneboxes with dead bodies in the other stalls? As I'm sure that was repeated on CH4 less than a year ago (and I'm pretty sure it was in another language  )

not seen this for some reason, will take a look and see if it fits what I'm looking for, thanks :)
