Saw 4

I actually didn't find it very confusing but I did find it to be about as good as your average DTV movie (i.e: Time to end this series now before it sullies the name of the earlier movies any further).
 
It's partly masochism. Generally the audience identify with the victims rather than the perpetrator. It's the boy equivalent of a weepie - ie a movie that makes girls cry. Part of it is morbid fascination, and part of it is wanting to see and feel things out of the ordinary.
 
I like that these are not just standalone movies, that you do have to have some knowledge of the previous films. I liked this one, it drew me in more than 2 or 3 did, and as usual at the end I like having to rethink what I've just seen, which I think this one did better than 3. And 4 didn't leave me with a blinding headache, which the others did.:D

So which bit part actors in 4 will now be in 5 with bigger roles?

One of the funniest moments, and shocking as I wasn't expecting it, was

the annoying photographer getting the spear in the neck
Funny but deserved.:D I guess they did it on purpose.
 
His 'lets find a random reason to put this person through hell' seemed to be because Rigg was so busy trying to save everyone else that he wasn't living his life and allowing his marriage to fail.

Really good motivation wasn't it?
 
Did anyone notice when Perez asked about Hoffman's life, he said he had a little girl to look after. She then asked if he was married and he said something along the lines of "No, it's complicated". Was it just me or was the a refrence to the daughter of Jeff, in that he was looking after her? Also, the tape at the beginning was directed at Hoffman saying even though he's the last one of the Jigsaw family to survive, he's not going to get away easily and he will face a challenge.
 
My perception of it was:

that Saw III and Saw IV were running at the same time in timelines, although we see Saw IV as a sequel. That way although in Saw III we see Jeff looking for his daughter and Jigsaw dying while Matthews and Hoffman are in another room within the warehouse trying to be saved by Rigg. Also the doll told Agent Perez that Agent Strahm would kill an innocent man (Jeff). We see Jigsaw's body at the beginning and the story is then told in flashbacks and at the end when Hoffman "survives" he must go back for Jigsaw's body for the mortician to phone him when he finRAB the new cassette to play. No idea what has happened to Agent Strahm either, maybe we will see him in Saw V after all he has killed an innocent man.
 
I personally was soo annoyed at the release of saw 4, theyve completely gone OTT with it now!

Saw one was good, a 'different' film, and quite clever, saw 2 was slightly worse, although still kind of a good idea, good twist at the end, saw 3 was pretty much a sick gore film, not much intelligence and a shite so-called twist, so I can just see saw 4 being awful!!!

You just know I'll go see it anyway though hehe!!
 
I will be going to watch Saw 4 even though I expect it to be rubbish. I liked the first SAW film but they have gone downhill from then. They should have stopped after Saw 3!
 
I liked SAW, loved SAW II but found the third one awful. The twist was boring and there was too much emphasis on gore shock factor as opposed to chilling story.
It'll be interesting to see how SAW IV works out and could redeem the franchise. That said, there'll be a number 5 and 6 too, all said to star Tobin Bell.
 
well i saw it last night and was totally confused! dont understand where the detective who was behind it all comes into it? and why he was listening to the tape from his stomach looking shocked - if as in the spoiler above it was running along the same time as saw 3 then why had detective donnie wahlberg been missing for 6 months? im confused!
 
I actually liked Saw 3. Not as much as number 1, but I really thought Saw 2 was a waste of time.

Saw 3 went back, I felt, towarRAB the clever side of the games. It envokes thought. Saw 2 seemed to just be about causing pain to people...the end. That's not interesting or exciting for me. I prefer something that's going to make me think...take me on a journey.

With the first Saw it played on the idea that you can escape if you want to. Ok you have to suffer something pretty traumatic to do so, but it's all about how far you are prepared to go to survive.
Saw 3 played on the thought of how far are you prepared to go to forgive, which probably isn't something many people think too much about, but its an interesting concept. Jeff had to suffer physically in order to save these people he has forced himself to believe he hates, but when it comes down to it, he has to think pretty quickly about whether he really can just stand by and watch these people get tortured to death.


I like the Saw franchise though, I think it challenges people in a way that I haven't seen many other horror films do. (although I could be wrong..I'm a big wimp and don't tend to watch many horrors)

whats happening with jeff and his daughter..................SO MANY QUESTIONS

but ill say this make sure you look at 1-3 again like a day or 2 before you go to see SAW4 i defo will be anyway
