Saw 2 - Can you go too far?

TBH i realy enjoyed SAW and not because of the gore, i thought thought the story was well thought out, it was very well acted and the ending blew us all away.

I'm of the the 'anything goes as long it's within the law' school when it comes to cinema. There seems to be few truly adult (as in definitely not meant for children, not the blue sense) films anymore. Now and again I want to see films that haven't been made with an eye on the lucrative teenage market and are as gory as they're able to get away with. The BBFC is probably the strictest - and I mean that as a compliment in this context - film censorship organisation in the world. They simply don't allow cruelty for cruelty sakes scenes in UK films. If, in their considered opinion, a scene is in there purely for that purpose, they will ask for it to be cut. If the film-makers refuse, it's likely not to be granted a cinema release. Films like I Spit On Your Grave, Cannibal Holocaust and the like would never get a cinema release today (not that they did in the 70's either) because they would fall foul of this.

Anyway, I digress. The point I'm making is that most people know what they're going in to see and what to expect from watching the trailer and reading a review. I can't believe anyone would see Saw II 'cold' thinking it's a film about DIY. True, it may turn out to be more intense than you expected, but you can always leave. Personally I avoid anything by Richard Curtis because I know I'm going to hate it.

Also, films don't always have to be entertaining to be very good. Schindler's List is in no way entertainment, nor is something like Capturing The Friedmans, but they're undoubtly very good films.

That is the bit that I didnt like. Amanda working for him. I dont know why, it just felt like a bit of an anticlimax to me. Also I found it made the whole story less impressive. The whole point is that Jigsaw is really clever. That everything is so planned and premeditated. Like in the first one where he has to do nothing, just sit back (or lay down!) and watch everything unfold. The fact he had one or even two people helping guide the victims was much less impressive.

Great film, quite cleverly put together and as sequals go, this was one of the best.

A few points though....

Wouldn't covering your nose and mouth with your clothes kind of slow the process of the lethal nerve gas? Perhaps giving you slightly more chance? I'm not saying it would save you, but it has to be better then breathing in full mouth loaRAB?

If you had the clue 'the answers are in the back of all your minRAB' wouldn't you think through the options of this more? Instead, they just seemed to ignore it.

As mentioned - why did that girl put her hanRAB in the trap? How could anyone be that stupid after witnessing all the other traps he'd laid?

They mentioned the house was made of wood? Would you not try to find a way of smashing a wall - they had that hammer/spike thing? Surely there would have been a weak spot somewhere to make a hole and some fresh air or something?

What other film did they do the 'it's not live' footage thing in? Was it the first one? or a totally diffferent movie?

I'm not bashing the film with those points, there are just things i've been thinking since watching it. Not sure I want a third to come out as it's best left there.

SAW 2 for me was unexpectedly brilliant, and probably the second best film i saw last year after Revenge of the Sith.

Can someone remind me, did both those guys in the bathroom die at the end, one escaped less his foot and the other was left to die I think ? Just trying to recap the storyline in antcipation of Saw 2 which hopefully will be even better

The japanese girl tortured the man by paralyzing him and then sticking needles in him and then pushing them back and forth with her body and she sticks needles in his eyes and flicks them and then cuts off his foot with a cheesewire

Saw 2 looks like its gonna be more successful then the original at the box office, its made almost $50million in its first week in ameirca which is what the original made in its entire run. And with a budget of $4million and prints and advertising at $20 million, the film is a massive success, with another sequel now in the works

Re Audition. What I mean is...

...does it just end with her finally finishing him off, roll credits, or is there some kind of a twist. eg it's a dream, or he escapes or something to stop it being the most horrible nihilistic film of all time!

He wakes up and it goes back to about half way through the film when he pruposes, then he wakes up again and shes cutting off his foot. His son comes home and she chases after him, the son kicks her down the stairs and she dies and it enRAB with a voice over of her talking about life to the man

This movie from just watching the trailler on the saw 2 offical website is sick, this movie will put you off food for a few days it done with me. It's BAD.

The BBFC have become very relaxed in recent years. Both I Spit on your Grave and Canibal Holoust have been passed at 18 on DVD.

I bought I Spit on Your Grave out of curiosity. It was really nasty and I like horror.

I personally thought Saw II was an alrite movie. However i didn't think it was as good as Saw & to be honest i didn't think it was all that gory.

The Opening Scene with the guy with the key behind his eye & when Amanda is thrown into the hole with the syringes.I thought those scenes were chillin.

Even though it isn't mentioned does anyone have an idea how long the timeline is between the events in the first movie & the events that take place in Saw II?.

I have a question regarding the ending

Was Eric's son aware that it was Amanda that took him to Jigsaw?.If so, then all he has to do is tell the cops how he ended up in the safe & then they go & arrest Amanda.

I agree it's a film which wouldn't work if the characters didn't all do the stupidest thing possible. That said, I think the idea is that by the end the characters were weak from the poison and not thinking straight, and were desperate to get the antidote.

Did you notice that when she pulled at the syringe, the bottom stayed stuck and the top came off making it useless? I'm not sure whether that was something Jigsaw intended as a deliberate risk, or whether it was a mistake by him. In the first film the key that was supposed to be in the bath fell down the plug hole, which also seemed to be a mistake. Jigsaw isn't perfect.

Anyway, the oven trap seemed stupider to me. How could anyone go into such an enclosed and obviously dangerous space without wedging the door open? And that happened relatively early (but after they'd seen the gun trap).

Thanks
So the dad is ok, albeit without a foot? Does he still have his eyes after the needles? Don't know why I care, but at least in Misery he's kind of OK at the end!
