Rumor: E7/ N9 / N98 / whatever this thing is

That's not a N00, that's a NOO!! As in, noo sooup for yoou!!

One thing doesn't make sense on the specs. If the screen is really 4" and the phone has all that sidekick extra plastic around it, then the phone length is going to be longer than any other existing phone.

So Michael's feelings are probably right. Just a proto. No soup for us!

The render appears to have some things missing though-I would expect the top end to match that of the N8, and it appears that only the power button is there and while there's an HDMI logo there isn't the indentations for opening the actual port. Not to mention the right side of the device only has a lock switch, when it probably needs the sim card/microsd slot if the device has a sealed battery too.

I'm sure that design is similar to what the device looks like but not exact in the details (the N8 green color scheme being the exact same proves it's validity). Hopefully it does come out, though surprisingly enough I think I'd take the N8 over this.

I think we can eliminate the E7, and rather name it N9/N98. If so, then hopefully the specs change a lot compared to what I posted earlier. This might actually be Nokia's S^3 flagship. However, in order to be their flagship they have to bump up the hardware compared to the N8. I'm also wondering, just speculation of course, that they might end the N series line with the N9, and maybe replacing it with MeeGo. Why? Becase if you think about it, what comes after N9? N1, N10, or N01??? And also, this might be their second and last S^3 device :)...

Me 3. Love being able to put phone down and look at the screen in a better angle. Greta for watching TV while at work :allred:

But I'm not sure about a dpad, too big imo. Something smaller like the N1's trackball would be useful for the times when the touch screen gets stuck to the glass and you get stuck as well

The thing is that N8 is already pretty much in the max of what phones using Symbian are supposed to cost so i don't really think feature wise there's much of a difference. Just the same 12mpx replaced by 8mpx, but 4inch screen and so on. Rumour was originally for this having snapdragon, but it would seem kind of weird now.

Eldar confirmed that there's one MeeGo device coming from Nokia this year and it's features are much better than N8. Thought imo it would be kind of confusing if MeeGo phones that are afterall got the high end OS will use single digits like Symbian phones.

The form factor was probably the only thing Nokia got right on the N97. Gives a better viewing angle and waaay more more solid than the slider phones like the N86/96. Hopefully this design and larger screen will be incorporated into the new high end phones.

Well, the leaked S^3 based proto has the same/essentially the same form factor, but bigger screen than N97 (IIRC N97 was 3.5"?). Plus 4 row qwerty. And from what I've heard a proto of (likely the next) Meego device has the same tilting screen action going on as well. So looks promising as far as the N97 form factor is conserned! :)

If they want to truly compete with the iPhone, then they need to look at the A8+PowerVR combination. At 1 GHz, it's going to be the top of the line for another year, I think.

I think it's funny that the watermark in OP's pic is exactly a year old (assuming it's correct). How did Nokia successfully keep this thing under wraps for so long?

Unless everyone originally wrote it off as an updated green n97... :D

Should be a compelling device, but, apart from the supposed lack of a xenon flash, I worry what else they will be removing so as not to cannibalize N8 sales.

Yeah, maybe it won't get released this year, or who knows.

Eldar actually said that the MeeGo device had "better" hardware than the N8, not features :). Well, didn't Nokia get the XL series, or something like that, for high-end devices? Maybe for MeeGo? or maybe they'll keep using the RX-xx like they did for Maemo.

You mean the Samsung Epic 4G? Sure, it's currently on Sprints' CDMA network, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time (months? weeks?) before a GSM version for Europe and Canada is made available. You could import one of those.

I don't think Nokia is worrying about that. Hell, look at the C7; an N8 without the 12MP and Xenon and HDMI ports. The N8 is the photography flagship and those who hold the camera in high regard will get it, those that want a QWERTY will look at the E7, and those that are interested in lower priced performer will look at the C7. Which will you pick?

i'm guessing it's gonna be called the N8 Slide. The 6700 had two versions. The "classic" and the "slide." The N8 and this phone looks too similar.
