A little more Takahashi criticism in this thread than I expected. Do people really feel that burned by Inuyasha? It's the one Takahashi work I haven't really dived that much into, but from what I've gathered it seems to have legions of fans.
I love her work. In fact, I'd probably be more accurate saying I'm a Takahashi fan than a manga or anime fan, because it is her stuff that drew me into it and her stuff that most interests me, even though I've branched out since I first found those Ranma tapes for rent at a comic book store.
Larry is right. She does sitcoms and there's nothing wrong with that because the situation allows her to explore the characters and their relationships, instead of relentlessly driving the plot forward or falling into the trap of building up a bigger fight every issue like Toriyama did. And her visual storytelling abilities, while she might not be the flashiest, are right there at the top and I'd put things like Maison Ikkoku up against any other manga.
