Rumiko Takahashi's new work is launching in Spring

A little more Takahashi criticism in this thread than I expected. Do people really feel that burned by Inuyasha? It's the one Takahashi work I haven't really dived that much into, but from what I've gathered it seems to have legions of fans.

I love her work. In fact, I'd probably be more accurate saying I'm a Takahashi fan than a manga or anime fan, because it is her stuff that drew me into it and her stuff that most interests me, even though I've branched out since I first found those Ranma tapes for rent at a comic book store.

Larry is right. She does sitcoms and there's nothing wrong with that because the situation allows her to explore the characters and their relationships, instead of relentlessly driving the plot forward or falling into the trap of building up a bigger fight every issue like Toriyama did. And her visual storytelling abilities, while she might not be the flashiest, are right there at the top and I'd put things like Maison Ikkoku up against any other manga.

Amen....I love her storytelling....Sure it's a bit "sitcom-ish",but it's easy to read/follow (I hate reading manga with really cluttered panels, esp when it makes it hard to tell what's going on)....and it's never boring...I've never once lost interest in any manga she's written, even the longer series like Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha (I'm actually sorta hoping Viz will consider rereleasing her "Rumic Theater" short stories collections and Urusei Yatsura, because I haven't been able to read much of either series)...

I look forward to hearing more, but I hope it won't be another 50 volume affair. I don't think I could afford it or find the room Heck, I'm still not done collecting Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha (though in this case, it's because Viz is 20 volumes behind!).

Aaaaaaaaaand, it's a one-shot (Thank goodness)

SounRAB interesting but also seems a bit girl-targeted.

I wonder if Viz knows the plot since they already licensed it? I would assume they do, I don't think they'd just license it on her name with no idea what it was about, but you never know...

I think unborn Japanese babies know what the plot will be.

Please more Ranma-esque, though. I'm tired of sworRAB and magic flame/electric/love balls as the main corabat.

That would be so awesome if we got a more Ranma-esque storyline, and I would pretty much hate to see another Inu-Yasha-esque storyline, but hopefully this new series is a comedy

I hope this new series is a comedy. Takahashi excels in the "sit-com" format. She'll likely be told by Shonen Jump to keep her latest series going as long she can. And its much easier to write 50+ volumes of a sitcom than to pad out a serious, plot-heavy series. Filler is expected in comedies. In dramatic stuff its just annoying.
