up until three days ago i'd never seen any of the rocky films but since then i've watched four in a row and i think they're ace so can someone please explain to me why everyone hates them??

I love the Rocky films (except Rocky V), I can still remember seeing Rocky IV at the cinema and no joke everyone was shouting and screaming at the screen for Rocky when he was fighting Ivan Drago, totally sureal.

I'm glad that Rocky Balboa was made as Rocky V was a crap way to end the Rocky series ......

It's definitely the training sequences that get the adrenaline going, if only it was that easy to get fit...... :D

oh yay!! i'm really glad you all said that :D

well i work in a cinema you see and everyone just seems to be constantly going "oh god another rocky... what a pile of crap". me and the OH went to see it last week cos it was the only thing on at the time we went but he wasn't too impressed and neither was anyone else i work with that's seen it. guess they're just all film snobs, they don't know how to enjoy a film just for the sake of it

ooh that could be fun, i've never seen rambo either! :p *joke*

I too had never before seen a Rocky film until this one. I thoughroughly enjoyed it. I went to see it with my mum, and she was shouting for Rocky to win, feeling every punch! :D
All I'll say is this-I wanna see the other five Rockys! :D

I dont hate Rocky but i do think it is overrated and i will never understand it winning the oscar for best film in 1976 especially seeing that the other 4 films nominated were better and the winner should have been Taxi Driver

Most people I know don't like Rocky V, but when I ask why they say - "well it just is".... no real answer why. I am sure people don't give it a chance and part of the reason why it bombed was because Stallone's star status was dwindling.

As you can guess, I was a huge fan of the movie. Thought it was storyline based (unlike 3 and 4 especially) - and sort of captured the essence of the orignial (and to some degree the sequel). Is it really because there is no "Rocky" training montage why people don't like it?

Most people I speak too rate Rocky 4 as the best... even above the Oscar winning original. Its a good little action flick but its really it is too short a film - its 90 minutes but much of it is filler.

Like the final movie also, if I had to order them it would be.

1, 5, 2, 6, 3, 4.

I heard Stallone saying he hates how 5 turned out, but then when asked why he doesn't say.

Can someone please say what was so wrong with five. Was it the fact they didn't fight it out in the ring? Was it the little training regime? I thought in terms of the Rocky sequels its was quite realistic and much more concievable than 3 and 4.

I think the fact it was out of the ring had a lot to do with people not liking it, even though that's where Rocky fights better, also I personally didn't like a lot of the scenes with the kid even though I guess it's neccessary to the story.

Saying all that however, I still think part 5 is a good part of the Rocky puzzle to have, if only to show another side to the Rocky's life.

Rocky V will always split opinion. Balboa is definitely a better film, a really excellent end to the series. I like how it actually DOES feel like the first movie a lot of the time and it's sure to affect you emotionally if you're a fan of all five and get all the references (that's not essential though, anyone could enjoy it). I know when I was watching it it hit me how invested I am in Rocky's character and how when the movie harked to his past glories and how everything was so great for him one time it really struck a chord with me. Just think of how different his life is in Balboa to how it is Rocky III/IV.

I do agree with most you say, but one qualm I had with the last one (as a fan of the series) is that those stories Rocky was saying in his restaurant didn't actually happen. Mickey didn't say that ahead of the final round vs Creed and Rocky didn't say that response.

The only other qualm I had was the shear lack of reference to Rocky V - only one I could spot (Home Team) - maybe a couple of references to why he closed the gym, why the Restuarant opened etc would have been nice.
