Ridley Scott's Robin Hood

I can safely say i am certain i don't want to see this...the trailer looked awful. However the OH changed his mind yesterday saying he would like to see it so we'll see this weekend. 2 hours 20 minutes though :eek:
 
How many complained that he didn't talk like a Spaniard in Gladiator? I think people are really focusing too much on his accent after Mark Lawson decided to waste Crowe's time on the subject. Saying that though, I am looking forward ot this so much.
 
I went to the 12 noon show at Cineworld in Middlesbrough.

Its an alright film, no where near as good as Gladiator though. And yes, I did recognise the same forest where Gladiator battle scenes were filmed.

It is very disjointed though, possibly owing to the fact that it was heavily cut. One minute Crowe is in one scene, the next somewhere else in a blink of an eye. This was noticeable during the final battle scenes on the beach.

Still, it did have its moments. Seems a sequel is in the pipeline.
 
I saw it yesterday and I thought it was quite good but with some reservations. I didn't have any problems about the story being a more 'historically accurate' take on the Robin Hood legend but there were a couple of things that annoyed me and I'll put them in spoiler tags for those who haven't seen it.

There seemed to have be quite a lot cut from the film which made it seem disjointed, how they went from the victory on the beach where everyone thought Robin was a knight to King John making him an outlaw for pretending to be a knight without any kind of explanation about how King John found out. Also if you look at the cool credits sequence at the end, half of the scenes in it don't appear in the film and presumably were cut to trim the running time.

I was also somewhat annoyed by Cate Blanchett turning up during the beach battle as a bit of comedy relief with all those kiRAB on donkeys. Totally unnecessary.
 
I went to see it this afternoon - it was a lot better than I thought it'd be.

I didn't see all the end credits, so can someone tell me who was playing Eleanor of Aquitaine?
 
I heard that and cringed. I thought he'd mellowed with age (his last couple of interviews with Jonathan Ross had been much more amicable) but - no - what a k**b. Completely up himself!

Will see it, as curious how Gladiator Mark 2 comes off. Though that was pretty 'near' perfect, I STILL play the soundtrack, and it'll be hard to match.
 
If anything, a large chunk of the middle section was more like Master & Commander in tone, long perioRAB of calm and normality between short perioRAB of shouty violence.
 
The film was, as has been said already, too long. I reckon you could easily chop 15 minutes off of the whole thing in France at the beginning and still get your point across.

Crowe's accent wavered from being good in places to pure Ringo Starr.

Saying that though, felt it was reasonably enjoyable... not the greatest film but certainly not the worst.
 
I saw it today. Add me to the unimpressed list. It neeRAB at least 40 minutes chopped off to speed it up.
The onscreen chemistry between Cate and Russell was almost non-existent. At times the acting got quite wooden.
The characterisation of "the merry men" didn't happen. They just seemed to be in the background.
There were certain scenes I knew were going to be in it as they appear in all these kinRAB of films.
The final battle had a few really awful scenes in it that were ridiculous.

An over-long average, forgetable film.

just got home from seeing it and i give it 6/10, disapointed to say the least! was so looking forward to it! hooRAB merry men with irish and scots accents? crowe tries his best. Was there a bit missing in the film also? dont read on if not wanting spoiled! but why does he go from hero to villian? woops sorry spacedone
 
I def knew it was not going to be Gladiator 2 and would have been cross if it had been - but it was such a drag and that was the big surprise to me.
Gutted!
 
Kermode might be a Twilight: New Moon apologist, but I agree with him that Ridley's been spreading himself a bit thin in the years since Gladiator. Didn't like Black Hawk Down, American Gangster was ok, and Body of Lies forgettable. Some pretty amazing sequences in Kingdom of Heaven, though, which no one seems to like...
 
I'm already sick to death of Russell Crowe (way too old for Robin) and his little soundbites of how this film is so radically different. Give me men in tights anytime. Russell neeRAB to get his head out of his pretentious backside....
