Ridley Scott's Robin Hood

Oh, I heard that- it was hilarious! What a dick!

The funniest bit being that they followed it with a clip from the film, and... there's DEFINITELY some Irish in there, but... I don't think anyone's ever spoken QUITE like that in the history of anything ever. I'm not sure I could cope with it for a whole movie. It was like Dick van Dyke Goes Rustic.
 
I have no problem admitting I really enjoyed 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves' and I'd still watch it again if it was on TV!

I know it was made in 1991, but it still seems like a recent-ish film to me, which is partly why I can't be bothered to see the Ridley Scott film. BTW I didn't care what accent Kevin Costner had - the story of Robin Hood is just a good romp!:D
 
I saw this film last Friday and wasn't very impressed. I only saw it because my accomplice refused to see anything else:sleep: Russel Crowes accent throughout the film was really bizarre, and i'm kind of stupid so didn't really get what was going on... Also, i thought the king at the beginning was meant to be the good one... anddd i didn't really like Cate Blanchett in it... The only thing I did like was Robins crew or whatever... Little John and co. ALTHOUGH I spent over half an hour trying to work out where I'd seen Little John before until i relaised he was in Lost:p
 
Thank god i'm not the only one who was totally under-whelmed by the trailer, looks so much like Gladiator 2 it's unbelieavable. Steering clear for sure.
 
Was interested to see this film for some reason but don't think I will rush after the opinions on here. Herd Crowe on Front Row; why is that bloke so bad tempered? The comment about the Irish accent really niggled him, he didn't appreciate having aspersions cast on his performance, thankfully he didn't hear the opening comment when Mark Lawson said he sounded like an Irishman man who takes the odd holiday to Australia; I'm sure he would have got a right hander.
 
I do understand and agree. TBH my measure of whether or not a long film is a good film is whether or not my backside starts to hurt - if it doesn't, then it is a good film no matter how slow it is because it kept my attention.
 
I saw this today and I actually quite enjoyed it! His accent's not the best but it's hardly Dick Van Dyke. He speaks so quietly you can barely pick out an accent anyway. I quite liked the film and thought it was an interesting take on the legend.
 
I don't think they will do a sequel to this, even though maybe they were planning to, due to the negative reaction. It seems Russell Crowe so wasn't expecting to be ripped off for this, and yet his performance IS pretty dodgy. He's obviously a good actor but definitely out of place here.

He would have been much better as the Sheriff, as was the original idea. And then maybe Orlando Bloom as Robin (would have made sense, have the two stars of Ridley Scott's previous two epics clash together). What we've ended up with is a confused mess. It doesn't know what it wants to be.
 
Even without the costume and ears i think people would think of Logolass seeing him running about wuth the bow.

Maybe someone like Clive Owen would have been good.
 
I watched it the other day and I got to admit it was pretty rubbish. It was slow, the "merry men" were not utilised properly and just come across as drunk comedy sidelines with a little action blotted around, maid Marion's character was very flat and not because the acting was bad but because the writing wasn't up to much. And they had lots of bits that were either not explained or was explained in passing which was annoying.

I am assuming a Director's Cut will be released and will have all this information explained.

And what was with all the lost boy people - there seemed little need for them other than to add minutes to the movie. I know they explained who they were but they seemed redundant in my opinion anyway.
 
I really liked it , I didn't find it boring or too long.

I think people don't like it because it wasn't the story they were expecting, as the trailers pretty much made it out to all the story in one film.........It was original, and in that I hope they follow it just as well.
