I want to see this too, it looks really good and not because of the "chemistry" they had in Titanic either, simply because it looks an interesting story. I'm curious to see the performances, too.
Oh Sorry! Well yes, then definitely ... Winslet and DiCaprio are on extraordinary onscreen partnership ... I love Winslet in everything she's been in, but for me DiCaprio is somwehat hit and miss - in this he blew me away (though KW's performance is even more intense!).
And its also interesting that Kathy Bates is in it ... 3 Titanic cast members reunited, albeit in a very different story
Catch Me If You Can is one of my favourite films ever, yet I don't have it on DVD despite have hundreRAB. Its weird, I've seen it about 10 times, which is more than the majority of my DVRAB, yet I don't own it.
I kept waiting for it to get started. It was extremely slow. I was also irritated by the fact that every time they spoke to each other they said their names - it was constant Frank/April/Frank/April...it seemed very un-natural to me. It reminded me of American Beauty which I didn't like either but I only realised at the end that they were both directed by Sam Mendes, although I did like Road to Perdition.
I really liked the Reader- i am currently reading the book and i must say that Winslet was PERFECT as Hanna.
I love all of DiCaprios international stuff- Blood Diamond and Body of Lies were amazing!
Saw it yesterday and absolutely loved it The acting from Leo and Kate was phenomenal and i will be very annoyed and disappointed if Kate doesn't get the Oscar - her portrayal of April was so wonderful and poignant at the same time.
The ending though had me crying. Excellent film. Can't work out why its had such mixed reviews...
As performances go both Kate and Leonardo were excellent.
Alas my verdict on the movie itself is not so praiseworthy.
My problem is with Kates character. Throughout the movie she is going through this depression meltdown thing, and it starts to affect the viewer.
It is true to life in that I know a number of women exactly like this who continuously break their partners balls 24/7 whether is is through depression or just malace. You start to feel extremely sorry for the DiCaprio character.
As a spectacle of entertainment, I do not recommend this film. It will depress you.
I felt the opposite actually - I felt so sorry for April but for Frank I had no sympathy, and I felt he is mostly, if not fully to blame, for April's depression.
