Rev (BBC2 Comedy Series) - Mondays - 10:00PM

Pretty sure that was the whole point. He really was the smiling assassin. Indicative of the 'style over substance' approach being taken by the evangelical movement. An incremental creep toward the kind of fundamentalism that terrifies us when applied to other religions.

I think the show was good and actually treats the Church with some respect whilst not being afraid to touch on some difficult subjects.
 
So far so good.

I'm not religious so wouldn't be able to tell you if the characters are stereotypes or not but there have been some very funny moments in both episodes.

The Vicar of Dibley was all 'sugar and spice...' and OTT at times (eg Kylie turning up), whereas Rev seems more grounded.
 
I completely agree. VOD was farce, this is a lot more subtle. It's not aimed at the family audience, so doesn't have to appeal to young kids like VOD did.

I hope it is given a chance to develop, it could be very good.
 
Yes, I don't see why Rev couldn't have a second series, if the BBC see it has the potential, then I will be very excited for the show's return next year.
 
I loved the Vicar of Dibley, found it hilarious on DVD, but there were more moments that were meant to be 'laugh out loud' possibly due to the audience.

Rev isn't bad, it feels more naturalistic than VOD or Father Ted, but this doesn't really tend to be my style of humour. The show does make me laugh a few times, but not as raucous as Vicar of Dibley or Father Ted. Two classic 90's sitcoms.
 
Rather enjoyed it, pretty funny in places. Tom Hollander is very likeable, so I think they've done well with him as the lead. Definitely watch future episodes.
 
there's many a psychological drama that would have benefited from a performance as disconcerting as Darren Boyd gave in the second episode. this ones a grower
 
Unbelievable - there's no reason a DVD shouldn't be out already, but failing that, surely it has "Christmas prezzie" written all over it (perhaps with a special Christmas extra on it)? But April...?
 
Tom Hollander is watchable in anything at any time -- great comic actor.

And the script is both humourous and true to life in the CofE. The Archdeacon is just like the one in our diocese: numbers up, good: numbers down, bad bad bad!.

The happy-clappy was spot-on: a Show, not a Christian Service, and soon into the Us-and-Them attitude -- we've all known such charismatic bullies in the church.

But I liked the Archdeacon's final attitude: "We can't be seen to be excluding people".

Exactly, I was just about to put it in my wishlist of DVD's to buy for the next three months, then I see it's been put back to Christmas.

Yet other programmes get their DVD released a mere week or two after finishing on TV. This had better be worth the wait.
