Remake You Would Like To See

They did. It was called The Wiz and starred Diana Ross as Dorothy. Michael Jackson was in it aswell

There are many films that you would not exspect are remakes. They are American versions of European or Asian films.

The Magnificent Seven (japan)
Three Men and a Baby (france)
Big (italy)

etc...

My friend and my sister were watching "It Happened One Night" and we were thinking it could be a good remade movie...but then we thought about it more and we realized it would probably come out seeming like the whole "Chasing Liberty-First Daughter" fiasco..and that wouldn't be good. But if they did it well..and with older people I guess...it could be good we think. But they have to get good leading people and not half-ass it...re-making classics, I don't know if thats a good idea.

The big reasons studios do remakes is precisely why they make original movies: MONEY.

In a remakes case... It's a proven FACT that the original premise/story did well enough to generate some income at the boxoffice. Hence, they assume to just duplicate the same success.

Hollywood is a RISK-AVERSE business that is all about investment and return.

And in such a fickle market place, I.E. what moviegoers actually respond to, tthey want to maximize their profits while minimizing their costs or expenses like any industry...

Hence, why the remake is heavily favored these days over original material.

There are over 20 remakes in the works right now for a major studio (I won't mention which one) out of the 37 scheduled for release (point being 17 are original scripts). How's that for statistics to back up why remakes are popular these days?

The same holds true for an adaptation for a book. If the movie bombs, the studio can just say, "Well, we don't know why it tanked. It did well AS A BOOK..."

However, what is the BIG mistake in BOTH of these presumptions?

The assumptions (pressumption) itself.

Just because an idea played well 10, 20 or even 40 years ago does not mean it will stand the test of time...

But even this doesn't stop Hollywood because now, as we all know, they don't care if they remake classics or not. They'll do remakes to B-Movie flicks as well, I.E. House on Haunted Hill; Gone in 60 Seconds, etc.

As was stated earlier, the key to a successful remake is how it is executed.

Most remakes are done for and marketed to the teen crowd, hence, why they DON'T come out that well for a number of reasons. And even the ones that are for more mature viewers, I.E. The Thomas Crown Affair, still don't live up to the originals because of the fact that (as was also stated) the stars of today are NOTHING like the stars of yesterday. They are just "actors" -- Which is DIFFERENT from being a "movie star" -- Let alone actually having any talent which is another MAJOR obstacle these days in why there is nothing good at the box office, I.E. Ashton Kutcher and others (male and female) of his ilk.

I liked both Ocean Elevens. I don't really think of the second one as a remake though. It's more like Ocean's Eleven the next generation.

I couldn't imagine anyone could top Westside Story.

And I agree that movies based on books or different from regular remakes. The same way that every performance of a Shakepeare play isn't exactly the same. The adaptation is always different. I like the different adaptions of Little Women. I'm looking forward to the new adaptation of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory even though I love the Gene Wilder film. The movie will just be another look at the book and not a redo of the Gene Wilder version.

I think I heard somewhere they're going to remake the movie Clue.

All I can say is NO, NO, NO, NO. Don't mess with perfection. They will never find a cast as perfect together as the one from the original movie. I think I would cry if I had to watch anyone but Madeline Kahn talk about murdering Yvette. "Yes. Yes, I did it. I killed Yvette. I hated her, so much... it-it- the f - it -flam - flames. Flames, on the side of my face, breathing-breathl- heaving breaths. Heaving breaths..."

I'd rather they remake a movie that actually deserves it because the first time around wasn't good enough. Can't think of any off the top of my head I'd like to see, but this is one I DON'T want.

I've always wanted Bonnie and Clyde to be remaked because i don't like watching old movies. And now their finally doing it, but it has Hilary Duff as Bonnie. :(

But, the problem with that is that what one person thinks is really really great is not what someone else would say is really really great. I am sure that the people connected to these remakes already think that their version is really really great.

I would love to see a remake for the movie based on Tod McFarlane's Spwan. That the only flick I can think of at the moment that needs a remake.

Thanks for all of the info, mukooh.

I have never seen any of the originals listed, but would like to see a couple of the remakes. Might feel differently if I had seen the originals, but sometimes, ignorance truly is bliss. :D

oooh, my brother told me just a few days ago that they might do a hollywood version of this. he's big into mangas.. but he said that zac efron's rumoured to play the lead (light version, or whatever my bro called it. lol). i don't even know anything but the basics of death note, but i can tell a lot of people are WTF about zac being cast. i personally can't see him in this kind of story (or any anime/manga type remake).

i'm a fan of anime.. and i usually find the remakes really bad. omg. don't even get me started on that new dragonball movie. :nono:

I do know what you mean. Great point and it would indeed be a great gamble but I believe the story would hold up fine. :) But I don't think anyone's thinking about remaking a classic with so many gone wrong aka Psycho.

It's just my wishful thinking talking. :)

That's what annoys me more though, you get all these stupid people who think that X movie is the ONLY one and no idea it's been done before. Why not just re-release films into cinemas and give people the chance to see the proper one, or at least release them simultaneously so that there's no excuse for ignorance.

I agree with To Kill A Mockingbird, but only if done with a good cast. The original was a good adaptation of the novel, which is excellent on its own, so if they had to do it today, I'd expect the same.

I think remakes in general should not be made unless it's turns out reallt really great.

Some of my favorites:
Ocean's 11 (2001), I thought was better than it's original
The House on Haunted Hill was great, but I've never seen the original.

That would be a really interesting remake, especially of they incorporate modern context and social evolution. It would be a good exercise.
