Remake You Would Like To See

Go rent it! It's basically a movie adaptation of the children's game. But hilarious.

Also, the remake is really happening. They've got Gore Verbinski directing.

This is called "artistic licence" ;)

This is exactly what "I, Robot" is with Will Smith.

I cannot believe it made over 54 Million dollars opening weekend.

The original story, by Isac Asimov, is not a slam-bang, action movie like this version. It is obvious they only took the title and basic premise and wrote their own story...

Which, again, is legal since it is not plagerism in the strictest since AND if they bought the rights to the story as well.

I remember having Cheaper by the Dozen read to me in elementary school. I haven't checked into it, but I believe there was a film made that actually followed the book. My understanding is that the Steve Martin film as little or nothing to do with either the book or the previous movie.
(please forgive any typos, it is VERY difficult to type with a cat nudging your elbow!!! :cat: )

IMO, there are at least four types of remakes:
1) Take the same story and film it with different actors and slight adjustments to dialogue, etc., to fit the new times or whims of TPTB.
2) Take the basic story and put it into a different setting (The Wiz is the

Oh really? Sounds interesting. I never really thought they'd re-make that for some reason. :look:

I saw The Crow for the first time earlier this year, and I'm actually really intrigued by what a remake for that would look like. I think it's because it's so 90s and iconic for its time, I'd like to see how it could be modernised or updated.

But it'd probably cause an upcry, I doubt we'll ever see it.

Hollywood loves the youth (teen-early 20s) demographic, even though they claim that they want the largest audience possible and people of all ages.

If that was the case, there wouldn't be these lame product ties with movies like "Spider Man II" and XBox, Coca Cola, etc.

Bottom line is this: Hollywood is not making movies for adults anymore. And when I say "adult", I don't mean chronologically speaking, I mean they aren't making movies with adult subject matter, OR if they do, they tone it down to make it "kid safe" by slapping a PG-13 rating on it so parents will blindly let their kids go to the movies just because it has a PG-13 rating.

This is relevant for remakes because a lot of the original classics that remakes come from are in fact adult oriented films in terms of the stories they tell.

A perfect example is "Sabrina."

Another one is "The Getaway" with Steve McQueen and Ali McGraw.

(Both have been remade, by the way).

I mean, I would hate to see them try and remake something like "Cool Hand Luke" and dumb it down for the teens. It would be awful, but you know that is what they'd do:

You'd get someone like Sean William Scott for the Paul Newman role, the Southern Prison would be turned into a Youth Correctional facility, some of the "colored" inmates would no doubt be stars like Usher, Tyrese and others, his (Luke's mother) would probably be played by Candace Bergen, or Kathy Bates and the Prison Warden by someone like James Cromwell or Chris Cooper just so they can attach a "big adult star with Oscar credits" to the picture

And the sad part... The thought process I just went through said is exactly how Hollywood thinks.

The Clue rumors are true??? That is SUCH a bad idea. Nobody can touch the 80's movie.

Like you guys have said, everything was perfect, you can't outdo perfect.

I had heard of Cheaper by the Dozen before but was not familiar with the story. I have to say I was quite disappointed in the movie, though. The one starring Steve, that is. I just didn't like it at all.

Truer words were never spoken...:D I love Steve Martin, but I absolutely refuse to see that remake.

I don't think all remakes are bad...all of the versions of Little Women that have been floating around have been pretty good...all different in their own way. If a story is strong, and the acting is good....a remake could be ok, IMO.

I must've watched Nightmare 1 & 2 283663 times when I was a kid. It's been remade by the same producers who are remaking Friday the 13, so I think it can be cool. F13 certainly seems like it's going to be a decent movie after all.

ITA!! I came in here to say that the Jodie Foster one was heaps better. Not as corny and more interesting.

I generally despise remakes, but one that I think could be redone even better is Rear Window (old Hitchcock classic)

Yea, I heard about this somewhere. It also has the kid from airbud playing Clyde, which dosen't set well with me. I'd like to see it remade too.. but maybe in a different fashion. Who knows maybe they'll pull it off : /

:goof: Noooo way. Clue?! That's wrong on so many levels. Every character was perfect. They couldn't get better paired actors if they tried. And no one messes with Tim Curry.. no one. :D

I don't mind remakes sometimes I even prefer them, but I can't think of anything specific. I love The Great Gatsby, the book.. the two movie adaptations I saw were ok. But I think it could be better.

I actually kinda liked The Wiz. It wasn't as good as The Wizard of Oz, but then again, I knew that before I even watched it. It wasn't that bad.

Somersby (with Richard Gere and Jodie Foster) was a remake of a French film.

There are good remakes out there. It just seems that most of the ones being made now are... Trying too hard? They seem to pick an audience, and try to change the original to fit the audience they want.

I think that if they are going to remake a movie, they keep it pretty much the same. Sure, some things can be updated. Certain things can even be changed, too. but, when you "remake" a movie and the only things that are actually the same are character names and a very general plotline... Just give up and create something original. You've practically done that already.
