Rebirth of the Rebellion - Code Geass R2 Talkback (SPOILERS)

Uh, I don't need to see the episode to say that the Black Knights aren't jerks. Think about everything Lelouch has done and imagine what you would think and feel if you found out about it all at once. You wouldn't think "oh well, let bygones be bygones." This was coming for a long time.

Oh man. It only just occurred to me that Lelouch might have become immortal to live through his stabbing. I seriously hope that's not what the writers were going for, cause that's incredibly lame.

Am I the only one who really likes Lelouch, and sincerely hopes that he's dead? Let's face it, the guy did a lot of awful stuff in his life; the least he could do would be to go out in style. If after all that he pulled one last trick and is still alive, I'd be incredibly disappointed.

Yes, die Shirley...again and again. It'll be like the Emperor Joker story...

*Merrie Meoldies title card pops up*

HC and Rolo in:
Deadweight Ditz

"I tells yas, Rolo mah boi, dat Shirley dame is drivin' me wacko. I gotta do sumthin'!"
"Duhh, gee, HC. Why don't we kill her?"
"...Rolo, you're a genius! I'd kiss ya, but ya already in a commited yaoi relationship"

And yes, praise to be Kallen *ordered a Guren kit*

I was hoping for more of a fight than what we got between Todo and Suzaku. But it looks like Suzaku might be out of the fight with the busted Float System, at least initially, since only the Tristan and Mordred were flying ahead of the Avalon at the end.

I also find it odd that Anya has a picture of a young Lelouch. That came out of nowhere.

Though I've come to actually like Xingke in the last couple of episodes, I'm not sure I like how he's got the best qualities of the two main characters--which Lelouch even pointed out. I guess the price for that is whatever condition he seems to have. I wonder how long he's going to last.

And random Lelouch clone. That better get some explanation.

Well in all fairness, apparently deadlines for GS Destiny episodes were often barely met and it turns out head writer Chiaki Morosawa was plagued by medical problems that are still going on. Had Destiny been split up into seasons or had circumstances been different, things would have likely turned out better.

Heck, it may well be that was part of why big Sunrise shows post-Destiny like Geass and Gundam 00 have been split up into separate seasons. Which is why if Geass commits silly writing mistakes, I'll be rather critical.

If they don't have a way to salvage a rational explanation of that happening in the series, consider it worthy of near (if not already doing so) jumping the shark.

Maybe Lelouch may find a way to lock Emperor in some Negative/Dead Zone for the ending? Given Geass's Penchant to play with the supernatural and absurd it seems possible.

He could treat the emperor like Jack Harkness [who I always remeraber when I think of the emperor being immortal] from the Who/Torchwood universe. Bury him under something heavy for a long, long time. Maybe lock him in a cemented cell.

Episode 5 got the highest rating so far, at 5.4%. Rest have been pretty abysmal. Ratings have been poor recently due to the Golden Week holiday, with Biglobe now streaming all the episodes more people have caught up and are watching.

The title just about sums up my feelings. Here's my run down:

The Bad

-They really throw out all sense with these comedy episodes. Anya using the Mordred to smash through the building was ridiculous and cringe-inducing. Couldn't LeLouch have saved Shirley from tripping down the stairs or something? Not to mention that she noticed there were two LeLouch's running around, and apparently didn't act on it. Come on.

-LeLouch isn't known for his athleticism, yet no one found Sayako's physical feats strange? The student council, at least, would know better! They blew right past him in the tomato episode!

-Rivalz is screwed, his character won't go anywhere. Write the eulogy, he's done.

-The four whores trying to get Sayako-LeLouch's attention. Face, meet my palms.

-The Shinkirou was used to take him to his Aquarium date? And NO ONE NOTICED?!?!

-Will this be the last we see of Milly?

The Good

-I disagree that Geass R2 can't reach a good conclusion. Lord willing, this is the last of the ridiculous comedy episodes now that Milly is no longer around to stir up crazy hijinks at Ashford.

-I'll admit, the date schedule and LeLouch's argument with Shirley was fairly amusing. LeLouch is a very different man when he's thrust into situations he doesn't think through ahead of time.

-The scene with the Emperor and the Knight of One was surprising to me, but perhaps it shouldn't have been. The Emperor has always come off as an arrogant power-monger so I wouldn't have thought he would remark that only a fool wages war, but then again a great deal of Britannia's territory was probably won through indirect means and attrition and annexation.

-Looks like my fears were groundless; Cornelia seems to be every bit her old self. Her meeting with Bartley is one of the best plot twists to come along in a long time. His remark about the possibility of committing "the greatest crime in history" is a downright chilling comment, coming from a Britannian.

-Cornelia's vendetta against the Geass cult, for lack of a better term, will put her into conflict with the Emperor and other merabers of the royal family. If that happens though, she will likely have allies in Guilford and the Glaston Knights. She and LeLouch, meanwhile, are searching for the exact same thing. This will without a doubt lead to very interesting conflicts soon; this whole plot thread is a powder keg waiting to explode.

-Nunally having custody of Kallen could make things interesting. I wonder if Suzaku intenRAB to use her to attempt to convert Kallen to his side? In any event, if the writers are smart they'll keep her there and force the issue on LeLouch's end. We know he badly wants Kallen found and rescued, but if that means going up against Nunally he may not be able to.

-Obviously, Jeremiah nullifying the Geass command on Shirley is a great cliffhanger development. I'm aware of the parallels to the Mao plot from season 1, but I'm hopeful that this won't be a clone of that.

-Milly got some sudden but decent development. She seems to be asserting independence, considering that working as a weather forecaster and canceling the marriage with Lloyd don't seem like things that would be seen as proper for a noble like her to do. I do wonder, however, if they've effectively written her out of the show with this. Ultimately, I feel there was potential wasted here. I always felt that Milly had a serious side that felt weighed down by her social status and the obligations that she felt tied to, and so she pulled ridiculous stunts at Ashford to cover that up and take her mind off of things. Geass never gave us very much focus on that though, leaving her mostly as the catalyst for crazy hijinks like what went on in today's episode.

In sum, I liked the individual plot points that came up in this episode. They point to greatness if they are followed through. On the downside, the likes of this episode are what will hold Geass back from that if they allow it to.

No more Ashford episodes. It's about time this season got down to business for good.

Grade: C-

SounRAB like the emperor is going to have a temper tantrum.

Lets not forget, we still needed to find out why Lulu's mother died and for what reason.

Though, if the emprorer can change memories that begs the question....

Is Lulu's mother really dead?

Meh, I think 3/10 is ridiculously low for the purposes of online posturing...the very name of the blog also says as much. For a so-called "critical" review, I don't really see too much analysis in a brief paragraph which justs lists flaws and hardly stops to point out any positives at all. Which this show does have, aside from the high entertainment factor. For the things that were left open, the ending did actually give proper closure to the main character's story, as an example, and carried out some of the show's themes to the very end. You'd think that would matter, perhaps?

I'd respect a well-reasoned 5/10 a million times more than that "review" I could easily write during a five-to-ten minute coffee break.

Poor Knight of RounRAB, a threatening bunch of pilots until the next upgrade comes along.

Episode 6: Totally pwned by Gurren Mk.II after showcasing themselves a bit.
Episode 18...ish: Luciano pwned by Gurren Mk. III after showcasing himself to be a super ******.
Episode 22: Three pwned by Lancelot Mk. III with two not even showing themselves to be any good and after Bismarck was shown to be super strong.

There was a masive battle all over Japan. Still, that nurabers way too high. 35 million dead or wounded?! O_O Thats about 26% of the population of Japan.

Way to go, Drugzaku. Your helping to exterminate the Japanese. Talk about your traitors. No one in Japan will view him in a positive way now.
