Rebirth of the Rebellion - Code Geass R2 Talkback (SPOILERS)

Okay, time to add in my two cents in regarRAB to Ougi and Viletta. If there is anything that makes it a bad pairing was its execution. It could have been a really good pairing and everything, but given the rather glaring weaknesses at times of R2's storytelling, it was really half-assed. At the end though it seems to be a minor contrivance and I would not have minded if they got married if done well. Now it's just some somewhat minor inconvenience that tarnishes a bit more of the season's lustre, but nothing that made the show crash and burn. Yes I expected better but... eh, it happened.

And now "Code Geass: Ougi and Viletta of the Flip-Floppy Love Pairing" show is over, now back to the regular programming: "Code Geass: LELOUCH OF THE REBELLION"

----------------------------------

So yeah I watched Episode 25 twice over (both in raw and subtitle form), and I was pretty stricken with awe from beginning to end. They in the end didn't let up in terms of action and suspense in the first half. The confrontation between Nunnally and Lelouch was a remarkable highlight of the episode, where Lelouch who wanted to give an ideal world to Nunnally is set back by a shattering reality that it may not be what she wanted. Thankfully Lelouch doesn't hold back on Nunnally in terms of his plans, so it was good to see that he still is crossing thresholRAB without any remorse.

Suzaku and Kallen's final battle with one another was absolutely intense from start to finish. It was good to at least see one final brawl between them and it ended with a nice stalemate. Same goes with Anya vs. Jeremiah. It was a damn shame though that Jeremiah didn't have enough time to do more of these awesome things. And in some sense I did enjoy the ending to the battle. It's a nice twist to the usual, "Destroy the floating fortress and conflict will end" that's usually found in certain anime. But I digress.

...The second part was something else entirely. I'm kindof an exception to the rule of people because I didn't cry when Nunnally had to see Lelouch die. But I cannot deny how powerful it was and that I almost really choked up with it. Regardless of all the series flaws, this was... wow. And then as we realize that this was the Zero Requiem that Lelouch was planning all along, it becomes all the more powerful. What a way to go. Probably not the GREATEST way to go, but in the end it seems all to fitting for an exiled prince turned rebel leader turned emperor who deceived his way to victory to go. I don't honestly think that him as Emperor in the scheme of things (even if it became so at this time than in 21) would have benefit the series in this regard. Still, powerful stuff overall.

Now comes the tricky part, the epilogue. This was perhaps the weakest part of the episode, yet bore the most responsibility. Having Kallen though narrate it allows it a nice perspective on the fate of everybody through somebody who has been there from the beginning and shared the lives of both sides. Yeah maybe the world is not that the one where Nunnally can live in peace, but at least she's still in power, with Geassed Schneizel by her side and SuZero standing on the opposite. While it would have been nice to see more suitable epilogues for all the players, it's... at the least alright to see that life went on regardless of Lelouch's 'death'. It is disheartening though we cannot really see the progress that happened after that (was everyone in the BK all like... HUZZAH or... WTF... or sad?), THEN show the happy stuff. But alas, that wasn't the case and, God willing there's an OAV, we get to see how everybody's been doing. At the least though there's an attempt to make frienRAB than antagonize.

As for the final part with C.C. on the hay wagon and her saying Lelouch. Well, regardless of whether Lelouch is alive or not, it was a nice twist at the end. Fitting for Geass in particular. Personally I don't care if Lelouch is alive or dead, at the very least he carried himself through to the end. I'm just glad I was able to at least see him through and to a relatively satisfying ending for him.

In the end, I liked the finale. Not the best one, but it had a lot of highly redeemable qualities that were only bogged down by an okay epilogue. But I'll for the moment take what I can get, regardless of whether or not an OAV will appear. Yeah it would be more satisfying to do so... but eh. There we go.

Expect a full review of the season later this week.

8 of 10.

And now that that's out of the way. I have a request to a certain mod who has offered to do this for me. You know who you are. Now...

[strike]I... JuuJouch Vi Britannia, creator of this thread, command you [geass]... To erect a poll so that people may rate this series! Set it up, and from descending order put it from 5 down to 1, and let it be so that people will see how other people rated the show. Let it be that as they vote the whole world will know their standing on R2 on final basis. This. I. Command!

And when you acknowledge this request, affirm with with a "YES! Your Highness!"[/geass][/strike] Fooey, it turns out I can create a poll...

If that's the chase, then that's when the hydroplaning semi I find Geass R2 to be to break through a mountain road barrier and is precariously balancing between keeping on the road or plummeting to guaranteed death.

I'm not pleased that they just killed off the rounRAB so easily. Who's left to fight for Schneizel, here? I mean really.

Well, looks like they've decided to go for moral arabiguity, at least so far. On one hand, Lelouch is destroying Britannia's old system by eliminating the nobility and giving freedom to the nurabered territories. That said though, Lelouch seems to enjoy forcing obedience. Forcing the UFN to admit Britannia at gunpoint? There's no defending that course of action. If it was to unite everyone against Schneizel he could have told them his suspicions, but no. Here I thought Nunally siding with Schneizel would either make no sense or be the result of the deception, but you know what? I can't argue that it isn't necessarily justified.

I'm more worried about what Lelouch could become than the fact that Schneizel has FREIJA borabs ready to be used.

Its nice that I'm no longer the sole Knight of Lelouch, endlessly defending Code Geass on this forum. But, then again, its not like this talkback has many people that write in it.

I suppose those echhi shows with tons on panty shots aren't popular around here.

As for where Code Geass ranks right now, its as enjoyable as Gundam wing was but not as good of a war story like the original gundam. Its better than Gundam 00 but only because I feel that show is even more overloaded with characters that don't get enough development. Seriously, people complain about Code Geass not developing its characters enough but compared to what? Also, I release that I like Code Geass more than other mecha shows because they lack a Character I wish to route for. I cheer for Lelouch to win in battle and I can't wait to see how his next plan unfolRAB. I think that excitment is what I lack in other mecha shows.

LeLouch: Now come here, Orange!
Haro: Orange, Orange, Orange!
LeLouch: What the hell?
Lockon: See, his color is orange, and so--
LeLouch: I can see that. By C.C's hair, you people are weird.

Oh, that. Yeah, I do wish for Viletta to overcome her racism. Ogi is a big soft teddy bear so he'd fall for her with maybe a bref moment of hestation. All Viletta neeRAB to do is somehow save Ogi's life and show him her invinicible puppy eyes, no man can resist a Moe's puppy eyes.

You know, code geass is a really odd anime. How did they manage to turn Viletta the warrior into puppy eye Moe Viletta?

The nature of Geass has pretty much been implied to follow the limitation of what is physically and mentally possible. Sure, the wielder might push that a bit, but the 'victim' is bound to enact Lelouch's command within reason. I think at most it tunes Suzaku's senses better. If someone was sneaking up behind him and he might wish to ignore it, the Live command would count it as a possible threat and force him to act.

I don't agree with that. She promised to serve Zero in episode 2, but is also on record saying that LeLouch himself is a different matter. I see in her reaction not simply jealously, though there may be some of that. As rubberchicken says there's offense at how she's kept out of the loop even when she's supposedly close to LeLouch. I also see suspicion and worry over LeLouch's secretive and deceptive ways. This burned her and her comrades in season 1, and now she already witnesses yet another trick with C.C. in the Zero costume. I don't blame her at all for reacting badly to that. Despite her resolve to serve Zero, I think that in the back of her mind she's worrying about another betrayal from LeLouch.

Gino is awesome! I must agree. He reminRAB me alot of Tamaki from Ouran.. but then again all blond haired, cheery men remind me of Tamaki....

I think the thing about Xingke that really draws me towarRAB him is his subtle gentleness. He be a tough guy badass, but then turn around and be so sweet to the little empress. I totally support his lolilove, and hope to god that he isn't killed off before the end of the series. I know there's a chance, considering he's also got that blood-coughing thing...

If it turns out that kind of collaboration was going on that long ago, I'll be very impressed.

Oh, we do blame you. You'll swallow that blame and like it!

But hey, this is an equal opportunity forum, we can't overlook the blatant fangirl bait.

Hmm, all tied up eh? I would've had some fun with this material if season 2 had come out before April Fool's day.

Seriously though, I like the one with Cornelia and Euphemia, though its sad with Euphie dead. Maybe its just me but beyond being artistic, the chain is kind of ominous. I have this mental image of the Emperor and V.V. in the middle surrounded by the other portraits, with the fates of everyone else affected for the worse by his iron-fisted rule and conniving ways. Theirs is the one portrait where chains seem to be headed in many different directions. Granted, the Emperor's the one guy in the series we're definitely supposed to hate, and I'm biased because I really hate him a lot. But still...

So, the last 6 minutes or so of episode 3 got leaked (and a staff meraber got arrested. Not sure if that's because of the leak or was the cause of the leak, can't find that out).

Apparently, they're right now deciding whether to air a shortened version of episode 4 this weekend or wait two weeks and remake episode 3.

Bleh to this.

And then Kallen gets with Todoh, who thrashes Suzaku over the bondage thing and all other misdeeRAB.

Suzaku: I was wrong, I was wrong! I've had enough!
Todoh: I'll tell YOU when you've had enough!
Kallen: You know, LeLouch, you took an awfully long time to save me back then.
LeLouch: There's a very good and logical explanation for that. Oh, look at the time, I think Pizza Hut just arrived... *runs*

Well, many fans will say thats why they love the show. Its got a bit of everything. Aka, the classic space opera like Macross (robotech) without being in space and with darker drama. But at its heart its still a Space Opera anime on earth.

You know, that doesn't make it a bad show. I never thought having serious elements requires a show to be serious all the time.

I would too but it seems season 2 is moving even faster than the first season. Next episode seems to be a huge clash and the Black Knights seems to have rebuilt to their black rebellion level strength in the blink of an eye. So I have hope since Code Geass has not give me a reason to doubt they can pace the story well.

I think that will always be a problem people have with Code Geass. Some don't mind it while other do to various degrees.

Maybe if you didn't watch Destiny...

Well, Code Geass certainly isn't try to be serious like that moive. Apparently, one can't have genocide without being serious. Perhaps they should have just gone with the cliche "toyko was destroyed" but not actually show any death because that's the point where fanservice can no longer be used.

What can I say, you like it or you don't but I don't see Code Geass changing.

Okay, that makes sense. I'll buy that.Bismark's comments about that really struck me. Him saying that while Suzaku brought up "Lelouch and Nunnally's despair" only a few minutes prior still gives me hope that he might see the light, so to speak, but only time will tell. There isn't a lot of time left, but I'm hopeful nonetheless.
