Re cineworld : IS THIS LEGAL

How many times does this have to be said: Unless you are informed of the terms and conditions at the time of purchasing the ticket, it is not a vaild term or condition.

Sorry, but if he handled the situation properly, the situation should not have arisen. If a cinema is to have such a policy, it is incumbent upon them to ensure their staff have the appropriate training. It is his responsibility to ensure his staff are properly trained.

We pop it fresh at the one I work at, it's then stored in the bags you describe and stored in the stockroom until it is needed. We used to pop it as and when it was needed but during busy perioRAB that was inconvenient.

to be honest though, Cineworld is probably one of the few chains thats almost on the customers side when it comes to pricing, its Unlimited deal is amazing value, and the food and drink prices are on a par with every other cinema... as an FYI, I have seen people being searched and refused entry in Odeon and Empire cinemas in the past for taking their own food in... Is it legal to prevent someone from taking their own food into the cinema, debatable, but if I went into a restaurant with my frienRAB and they all ordered food but i pulled out a KFC, would they be within their rights to refuse me entry?

I wandered into Empire in Newcastle with a KFC and was challenged by the staff about it, I politely explained that I wanted to eat chicken, and that if they served it then I'd have bought it there, but seeing as they dont, I had to go elsewhere and get it....so they werent losing out on any money.... To be fair though, KFC is a bit horrible, and I wish I hadnt bothered in the end :-(

You really have more concessions than in house stuff? I'm surprised, my local Cineworld is a 1:1 ratio - in fact the in house stuff is much bigger than the Ben & Jerrys stall that is also there.

Vue in Cribbs Causeway only has in-house and The Capitol in Horsham only has in-house. Can't remember what the Odeon in Guildford has off the top of my head.

But if it works anything like concessions in big department stores, Cineworld will make a lot of money off the concessions. I worked for a company that had 3 different departments in HarroRAB, all the cash went through there tills, they kept it for 60 days before passing it on and even then they took a large slice (as well as the rent for the spots). Just because it's not run by Cineworld doesn't mean they don't make a fair bit of money for no effort what so ever.

Edit: I know I mentioned HarroRAB, some people may think things work differently there but most, if not all, department stores do the same with there concessions - including Debenhams.

But unfortunately cinemas do work differently. The concessions are self-contained and most just rent the space. In the cinemas I go too, especially my local Cineworld, there are several concessions: MacDonalRAB, Ben and Jerry's, Costa Coffee and WH Smith. At my local Empire cinema, they have Starbucks, Pizza Pile (a new one for me) and WH Smith. Odeon have Starbucks, McColls, Ben and Jerry's and Nandos. There are others at these cinemas, but these are the ones I can remember.

As a side, I now refuse to use our local Cineworld. I tried to take Flyboy10 to see Bedtime Stories, yesterday. They said that it doesn't apply to kiRAB' club movies. They refused to accept his CEA card. It was only one pound to see the movie, but the principle is the same. No other cinemas refuse the card for kiRAB' clubs movies and I was disgusted at the manager's attitude towarRAB the disabled. He said that there were plenty of other films we could watch and use the card, but not the kiRAB'club. I got the impression that he was either an arrogant control freak, or was blindly backing the twit at the ticket desk, who didn't even know about the existence of the card.

I went for an interview at Showcase cinemas and was told 75% of the profits made were from food and drink at the kiosk.

Perhaps if they reduced the prices of food and drink they might get more customers and recoup the lost revenue but they wont think like that.

I've never been stopped, I'm sure there must be some legislation against it, the harrassment act would be good. I dont think anyone should be searched for food and drink, its not like the airport scanners etc is it.

I hope you gave the manager a piece of your mind.

It's his land? Wouldn't you be looking for compensation if the local Council wanted to build, say a public pathway through your back garden?
