Re cineworld : IS THIS LEGAL

I think all cinemas are getting stringent with the checks on food and belongings. Odeon have done this to me a few times. If there is a nearby cinema with a shopping centre attached to it, go there. They never question you as you're bound to have bags on you. It's not really fair, but I guess its the way they make money off us.

I can't really see how they'd get themselves into a right can of worms, uness you are suggesting either;

1. They're doing it just to cause you trouble and that means they might take it too far and start spiking drinks, or,

2. You could spike your own drink afterwarRAB and blame it on them, getting Cineworld into BIG trouble.

Beyond that, I can't really see how spiking drinks would come in to it.

As far as taking water in, of course they can stop you. They can deny entry for no reason at all, so long as you haven't already paid.

However, if you are an unlimited card holder, I think they'd have a hard time holding it up in court. Taking in a coke is one thing - as they can claim you are unfairly using their facilities and affecting their business - but a bottle of water is likely to be laughed out the courtroom. Fresh water might not be a right under the law, but most consider it an essential, as opposed to a luxury item.

Just looked at a Dixon's receipt for a SD card. Can't see it on there either.

If you put your terms and conditions in the most inaccessible place possible (hardly something that anyone should be proud of), it would be unlikely that the store would have got away with it, if challenged.

If a store (or any other business for that matter) tries to pull a fast one, with terms of business, I will always challenge them on it.

You can drive over the speed limit and get away with it for thirty years - that doesn't make you right when/if you get caught....

I think you'll find "but I've always done it" wouldn't help your case very much ;)

Ok, they shouldn't have been rude but that's really a seperate issue.

All I can say is that by imposing this rule suggests that they know they are ripping us off and are quite happy about it. If they were confident of the quality and price of their products, then they would not have to check people's bags.

You would be fully entitled to a refund. It would be their decision to refuse entry and therefore they will not be fulfilling their part of the contract.

I only agreed cos the whole incident left me shocked and stunned speechless and didnt want to kick off like so many people do. The whole thing was such show up:o and not cos I got caugght with a bottle of water

i gonna drop them a e mail this evening as phoning their info line to speak to someone is also a rip off. 7 minutes I was on the phone on simliar 0845 number before a human being came to the phone and they never returned my call like they said they would.:mad:

They have not returned my call great customer care unless they are looking up the law to see what rules they have broken but both parties are in the wrong IMHO

How?

Their business is films. They allow the eating and drinking of said snacks in the premises. Where are you unfairly using their facilities? You have paid for your entry..

Not really. They are holding the bag with your permission. You are perfectly entitled to refuse this permission, and they are perfectly entitled to refuse you entry if you don't abide by it.

It happened to me a couple of months back, as you can imagine, I was mortified. I don't know what you can do about it BUT I think you could probably contest them taking your bag off of you. Perhaps some of the contents, i.e. any food/drink but not your BAG, which could contain personal belongings. :o That's disgraceful.
