dad's quote "why doesn't he just wear a hood?"
me: 'that's really short-sighted and ignorant. Rand paul has nothing to do with southern hickage and everything to do with libertarian philosophy
dad: HES FROM THE SOUTH. he's going for the racist white vote
me: whatever

It seems like much of your problem with big business can be attributed to them being in bed with the government. Many people who think like you think the answer is MORE regulation and MORE big government, but in reality all that does is perpetuate the problem.

The real answer is to get government out of business, which will take away much of the power that big businesses have.

There is no debate, people are just amazed how openly racist a guy can be nowadays. He's a laughingstock like Palin. Like every conservative pretty much.

How would less regulation take power away from big business??

If anything that's more of a green light to let things like the crash, GoldmanSachs, and other shady dealings to happen. Gives Bussiness complete free roam to do anything and not be accountable or have to adhere to standards.

I've never heard of More Regulation ever being a bad thing. Regulation doesn't always equal Big Gov.

Fine. Go live in a cardboard Sears refrigerator box under the bridge down by the river.

I would expect someone of little or no intelligence, such as yourself, to completely miss the deeper point he was trying to make. But then again, arguing with you is like beating ones head into a wall. It's not productive, it isn't fun, and if I keep doing it, I may end up as retarded as you.

he just doesn't understand what a libertarian is. to one unfamiliar with the breed they appear as cold as an economist or if spun in the right direction 'in favor of racism'

He did do poorly. I understand his dilemma though. No matter how much he emphasizes the fact that he despises racism and discrimination, if he admits he believes people have the right to discriminate in their own establishments, he will be labeled a racist.

He is absolutely right though. I wish he would have just toughed it out and challenged anyone who disagreed. He does have the correct, logical, constitutional position.

Your house isn't a bed and breakfast. You are within your rights to turn them away.

A private residential property becomes a private business if and when you start conducting business out of that property; For example, if you turned your house in to a bed and breakfast.

You do have equal access to the place of worship as everyone else. If they tried to remove you simply for making others uncomfortable with your presence they'd be in the wrong.

yeah, I think Maddow in general is fair. even Charlie Rose seems to interrupt people now .

I think Paul is right in the sense that it needs to be a philosophical/intellectual discussion, and from that standpoint I think the format was wrong. You can't be afraid of insulting anyone's views in that situation-- nor can you be worried about whether people are even listening or not.

Paul may think he was being treated unfairly, but the reality is....this is America in 2010. peoples attention span a decade ago was less than 30 seconds. It has to be closer to 10 than 30 by now.

Haven't read the thread but I wish he would have just said "Yes, they should be able to discriminate. But it's up to the people that go there to support them with their business or not if they don't agree with it."

Besides, it's not dated. It's ignorant to think that human beings have somehow evolved past the point of private property. If anything, we've greatly regressed as a society and need the protection more than ever.

The only basis for someone at this point to argue against property rights would be bred more out of frustration of their own inability to prosper and acquire property, either through internal or external forces, rather than a true belief in community. Give a communist a million dollars and a mansion and I'll show you an instant capitalist.

Humans will never evolve past sex, as they will never evolve past private property.

Even the staunchest, most hard core of communists or socialists still want something to own and define as being theirs. Private property is innately built into us, it's the quintessential expression of the individual.

In the end, we all want shelter, we all want comfort, we all want luxury. How we go about attaining these things is what differs, but one infringes upon others to satisfy the needs and whims of an individual, while the other relies on the individual to make do for themselves.

I will say my post on my facebook about this earlier today sparked about 30 messages in favor, about 10 calling me "racist"(to which I replied "fuck off, you incompetent scum" ).. and a decent amount of "likes".

I'm sure it sparked a lot of "food for thought" for the people who didn't say anything as well.
