Radio weak reception?

I have a diesel SEAT Leon and replaced the old radio with a new Pioneer deh 1000e, it used to have a strong reception on all radio stations but recently when driving the 'static level'/interference gets worse and better as if your going out of range of the radio station and then coming back to it again really quickly. this only happens on some of the channels though? What could be causing this?
 
I'm not sure what's causing it but it happened with my family's car too - maybe if you buy a signal booster for your car's aerial, it will help the reception. It worked with ours.
