R&S, How educated are you, and have you ever called anyone on R&S stupid?

Does lack of education lead people to resort to using fallacies like ad hominem arguments (i.e. arguments against the person instead of the argument)?
Thank you Goddess, yes one of the guidelines to logical argument is to be fair and charitable in interpreting an argument even if it has fallacies of its own.

Not I have not. Although I have used the word SILLY when people are too ridiculous to even try and reason with.

It's not for lack of argument it's because any argument would be wasted on anyone "silly" enough to ask that question!

I never called anyone on R&S stupid.
I have blurted theistic beliefs as irrational and nonsensical many times, though.
What is the most accurate attribute for Noah's Ark story if not irrational?
 
I just think it's lack of thought that does it. Those arguments are generally emotionally charged. Emotions block thought processes in my experience. Frustration and anger seem to be at odds with rational thought. So I think if we could all just stay calm, then we'd all see each others point of view. And 'ad hominem' arguments wouldn't happen anywhere near as much.

Although this might answer may just be another example of my lack of education :)
 
I've insinuated people are stupid, told them they looked stupid, but I don't think I've ever just out and out called somebody stupid.

I'm purty edgikated.
 
I am very well educated, and no..i have often thought it, but i have never actually said someone was stupid, rude, yes, deluded, yes. Stupid..no.
 
I'm stupid. I believe in the resurrection of Christ and I have no proof. I figure, if I love my neighbor, it will make up for my ignorance.
 
I am more educated than most people my age. I am a senior in high school and I am 15. I have only called Joe Cooker and Liberal ***Kicker stupid. I have also said the concept of a god is illogical.
 
the word Stupid means ignorant.
Someone who doesn't know something is considered "ignorant to the fact" or stupid.

i think people play tug of war against people with different beliefs,points of view or opinions. it occurs more often than education related arguments.

I've never called someone stupid directly.....
A lot of times people will try to discredit me because of my age, even when my arguments are valid.
 
Ask any atheist.

Lack of religion is what causes the ad hominem attacks (and all others).

The motivation originates off line, and it forces atheists into a religion forum where they wouldn't normally go, except for the hatred inherent in atheism.
 
I never call people stupid, but I constantly question their intelligence. Since I also constantly question my own, it's perfectly fair.

As for education ... I'm struggling through degree number three right now. For whatever reason, English and Music degrees didn't get me a job.
 
i think people just would rather call the person stupid and get their aggression out than debate.
it makes them feel good to vent on the person.
and yes i personally think it is lack of education

I don't know for sure whether or not I've called anyone stupid here - I've seen some egregiously and delibaerately stupid things said here, so I may have.

Stupid is such an ineffective adjective. I usually call them inane, arrogant, bigoted or ignorant - but only when they are deserving or when it is appropriate to the situation.
