I hope this is an easy question to answer.

Right now I have Expressvu at home with a single LNB dish. I also have a dish hooked up at my cottage with a single LNB dish. When I go up there I bring one of my receivers from home, plug it in and voila TV for the weekend. I know technically this isn't kosher but whatever.

I'm getting HD set up at home so they are going to hook up the second LNB, run more cable and I assume point to the new bird (91?). How will this effect my cottage set up with only a single LNB pointed at the old bird? Will it still work or will I need to get a second LNB? If I need a second LNB can I just take one of the lines running from the existing LNB and plug it into the new one? Do I need some sort of switch to combine the 2 feeds into one that will run into my 3100 receiver?

Sorry for the questions, I'm a little confused about all this but any hep or links are appreciated.

Thanks.

If you want hd at the cottage you need the second line and switch and HD receiver (high definition). You would also need a HDTV at the cottage. IF not you can just leave the extra sd receiver at the cottage the setup is OK for a 3100 sd receiver( standard definition).

I see. It will remain SD at the cottage. So the old satellite (81 I think) will still provide all the programming.

The only reason i ask is that I was to get my HD install today but it was put back until tomorrow. Because I had an old programming package they needed to migrate me to a current one to get HD. The change went through last night and this morning the majority of my channels were gone! All the locals, TLC, etc. I was concerned that I needed to be pointing to satellite 92 to get these still and needed to wait for the second LND to be installed.

Maybe a screw up on Bell's end? I just called home to see if the channels were there. Still not. Example 212 (CTV) doesn't even show up in the listing (Not even in Red).

Thanks.

What you are doing will still work exactly as it did before EXCEPT you may have to run the check switch option every time you switch locations.

Your home install will have a switch (SW21 or SW44) to combine Nimiq 1 at 91 degree and Nimiq 2 (HD) ant 82 degreed.

The receiver needs to determine what switches (if any) you have installed. It is a simple task (menu-6-1-1-"check switch") and will take about 2 minutes to run.

At home it will find whatever switch gets installed (6100=SW21, 9200=SW44) and at your cottage it won't find one.

If you are missing channels, then you have another problem. I'd call and ask what is going on, sounds like a screwup.

When you go to your cottage you should call Express Vu to deactivate the receiver staying home, and activate the one at the cottage. Both locations can not be active in the system at the same time

It would be hard for you to upgrade your cottage HD, I don't belive that any agent will place an order for an upgrade on a cottage dish.

You also won't be eligible for the Nimiq 2 free upgrade since you will already have HD.

One thing you should not do is call Express Vu to deactivate the receiver staying home, and activate the one at the cottage. Dont say anything about a cottage, that is not a requirement of getting HD.
Expressvus rules say you have to call them and let them know you are going to the cottage and call them back when you want to come home. You know what its like to call expressvu so you can imagine doing that 2 times a week. Obviously most don't and is NOT illegal. Pay your bill and enjoy your HDTV.

Thanks for all the info. I realize I should call but I don't. Why bother when I will sit on hold. I don't feel too bad about it.

This is stupid and unnecessary. Do you want a customer calling twice a week to change receiver locations and the extra call backs to resolve technical issues? Thought not. Never mind the time involved and loss of service to the customer.

Ruteger, get a cheap dish, switch and LNB off from eBay (or Digitalhome buy/sell.) You can browse the installation forums here for help on installing. It's not that difficult if you follow some basic steps. The check switch advice is a good idea but not necessary if the dish installations are identical.

This thread was not about the cottage policy, but about upgrading a dish to get HD. Cottage policy isbeing discussed in other threads...

The only thing I said is that client won't get HD at the cottage and he won't be able to get "Nimiq 2 free upgrade" at the cottage, since his home dish already had Nimiq 2

I explained the cottage policy rule just so that the client, if he was not aware of it knows about it. Bell Express Vu is becoming really serious about this policy and more and more calls are getting done every day to verify that this situation is not happening. Just tonight, I transferred 5-6 call that the verification departement of lients calling back saying Bell left a message

Except he doesn't want HD at the cottage.

Not sure why you brought it up then.......

I believe the original question had been sufficiently and properly answered prior to all the extra comments :)
