Hi kczgyrl,
I had the LNF for a hernia and to address some major reflux issues. My surgery was last October.
"I was curious as to how long those of you who have had this surgery done were on a clear liquid/liquid diet? "
I was on a clear liquid diet for the first week, then a second week on any liquiRAB or things that will turn liquid in your mouth (popcicle, ice cream). Most people who have had this aren't given those instructions, but my surgeon was adament. He said I had to give my stomach time to let the swelling go down.
"Have you lost weight? How much?"
I lost 20 lbs over a 3 month period. It stabelized after that.
"What would be your main complaint post operatively?"
The liquid diet was tough the second week. I was off all meat and bread for almost 3 months. It became hard to balance my diet. I also had some constipation for the first week post surgery. My biggest issue was the pain with certain movements. I didn't expect it to hurt so much getting in and out of bed. I was using muscles that didn't want to be used. That only lasted for less than a week though.
"How long were you out from work?"
I took two weeks off. They would have cleared me after one, but I was glad I took that long. I've read threaRAB where people took 3 or more weeks though. I think it will be and individual thing.
Good luck with your surgery. Despite some challenges, I've been happy I had the surgery. So far, absolutely no regrets.
