Question about the N70, N72, N73 and Mhz band

Beforehand, i want to thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and answering (hopefully all!) my questions.

So i did a quick search and read as many threads with ppl asking whether the to purchase the n70 or the n72. but unfortunately i still do not know which phone would be best suited for me.

I live in southern California (north america) and i plan to stick with t - mobile as my service provider. A quick search on ebay shows the N70 and N72 at both around $320 so the price advantage is moot. What features/functions i will really use the most would be calling (duh), the calendar (to sync with outlook of any other calendar program), and the music player.

As of right now i do not plan to use the internet capabilities due to budget constrictions--maybe further down the road i will.

SO, i apologize if this thread seems redundant, but which one is the better phone? the only reasons why i am considering the n72 is:

-because of the outer case (design) appearance.

-from what i have read, the N72 is more music player adapted (friendly)? or am i mistaken since both has the same operating system and version?

-And also, from what i have read, it seems as though the N70's interface is slower, that and/or the phone altogether is slower? That the N72 is more responsive / faster ? Is this true?

Another concern is the reception i will be getting. i am not very familiar with the signal bands, but i did read that it would be better to have a phone with GSM 850MHz for california (north america)? Is that correct?

The N70 is Triband GSM (EDGE/GSM 900/1800/1900 + WCDMA 2100 MHz), while the N72 is Triband GSM (900/1800/1900), would not having EDGE and WCDMA 2100 MHz hurt the N72 in talk quality and signal strength (reception)? More so, would it make a difference for someone living in southern California?

Lastly, since the N73 seems to be better choice, i was wondering if anyone could estimate when the price for the phone will drop. say to around $300 dollars? or just a price drop in general. but if it is not going to drop anytime soon (a couple of months), i believe i will just pick up the N70 or the N72.

p/s.: should i just save myself some cash and buy the nokia 6682 for $199 to 250 dollars?

The USA uses the WCDMA 1900 MHz band, not 2100. Therefore, WCDMA on the N70 is useless to you.

EDGE is for data, and has no bearing on your reception.

Let's clear a few things up. . .

First of all, both the N70 and the N72 have EDGE, so that's no big deal. EDGE is used for data/internet, which you said you won't be using anyway.

As far as frequencies go, the only numbers you're going to be looking for is GSM 850 and 1900. Since you're on T-Mobile, having a phone with only 1900 will probably be jut fine, but if you ever travel to an area where T-Mobile doesn't have coverage (some of the deserts out there) then you won't be able to roam onto Cingular's 850 band or any other provider that uses 850 for that matter.

I would suggest the N70 to you as it seems to be the best s60v2 phone to date for its performance and you get the most for your buck. It has minor advantages, such as more internal memory and a better keypad that really make a difference. Both phones are just as capable as the other as music phones; they use the same music player and both support a 2gb DV RSMMC card.

With the 6682, you would have "better" coverage since it will pick up those roaming bands you'll need if you travel, but the 6682 is not nearly as efficient as a smartphone as the N70 is.

Don't even remotely look at the 6682--biggest POS nokia ever made. I will confess to not knowing the exact difference b/w N70 and N72, but everyone knows that N70 blows pretty much everything out of the water because of its vast amount of free ram. Having said that, i don't think you're going to run into any ram problems unless you start web browsing (or maybe viewing large pdf docs). B/w those two, I say choose N70.

N73, is unlikely to drop to 300$ any time soon (correct me if I'm wrong). Having said that, why don't you take a look at E50. That is the phone I'm recommending to everyone on a budget. It has the newer OS 3rd ed. Overall (and by that I mean, unless you have a lot invested into very specific apps that may not be out for 3rd Ed. OS yet, that is probably a good thing), it has the higher res screen (although it is 0.1" smaller in physical size (I believe both N70 and N72 were 2.1" screens and E50 is a 2.0" screen [but with much higher resolution 240x320 vs. 176x208]). It is also very small, has only a 1.3 megapixel cam, I think the N70 and N72 are 2megapixel. But it is a great NEW phone and can be had for under $250.

after reading some reviews, it seems as though e50 suffers from some noticeable lag and the sound quality of calls is a bit below average... i wonder =|

N70 has 2 versions
N70 original: 2G 900, 1800, 1900; 3G 1900/2100
N70-2: 2G only 850, 1800, 1900
N72: 2G 900, 1800, 1900
N73: 2G 850, 900, 1800, 1900; 3G 1900/2100

EDGE is useful mainly on internet, since you don't plan to use internet, then forget it for now
all models will work with T-Mobile because T-Mobile uses mainly 1900

currently, N73 price dropped a bit, found in Hong Kong
N73 is 3780HKD (barely $500)
N80 is 4380HKD (about $560)

if you want around $300 phone, get E50
