Quantum of Solace

that wasn't some clever hidden subtext you think you've picked up on that everyone has missed - that was the plot.

and as for juxtaposing tosca with that fight - its the sort of thing thats been done in films for decades. haha they even do things like that on eastenders. i actually couldnt believe they put it in, its very old hat

I enjoyed QOS , a bit more formulaic Bond than CR but it was very well paced.
As for Film 23 , I think they should go for an extremely fanw@nky end to the Quantum storyline. Have there be 5 head honchos of that organisation played by messrs Connery , Lazenby, Moore, Dalton and Brosnan;)
Just kidding with the last bit but something has struck me
Is it being made a little too obvious on purpose that Mr White is the main man at Quantum. What struck me is that it could turn out to be a reversal of the old "let me tell you all my plans mister Bond rather than put a bullet in your head scenario". I mean that Bond had a chance to Kill the main man when he was captured at the end of CR but he's now got away
. Jesper Christenson has definitely been the most sinister thing about the two latest Bond movies-no matter how limited his screen time has been. I buy him much more as a villain than those limp wristed jessys Le chiffre and Greene:p

I hope Barbara Broccoli tells P Diddy to take a running jump off a short pier, or his case, a plane in the south of France. Firstly, hes too short, hes American, hes not an actor really, hes an rap artist, hes not caucasian (as described by Ian Fleming when they had a photo made for the Daily Mail when searching for an actor). Ian Fleming and Albert (Cubby) Broccoli would turn in their graves if he was given the part!:)

And that's the reality that I simply find hard to get used to. I grew up on the old style films from Connery right through to Brosnan. I liked them the way they were because... well they were fun.

Now don't get me wrong because I've already said I loved Casino Royale, I thought it was a fantastic movie. But for me it's so substitute for wacky gadgets, suave spying and cars with missiles.

Ah, I didn't remember that bit - I suppose it's a good reference without making her be called by it! I'm a huge Bond fan, but the Bond girls names have never sat easy with me, it's the only part of the package that I find a bit demeaning.

This was a complete waste of time.

They should have put the last 2 minutes of the film set in Russia as the pre-title sequences then started from fresh.

The camera was way too close in all the action sequences and as such they were confusing and very disorientating. There was no pacing to the film as it just jumped from action sequence to action sequence. What the hell was the director doing thinking with the "Horse race" and "Tosca" chase/fight scenes??

To me it seems Forster wanted to make an art house film and NOT a Bond film.

All Forster managed to do IMO was turn Bond into a thug. The scene where he pushes a baddie off the rook (akin TSWLM) made me feel uncomfortable. Bond has not yet earned the right to be that ruthless. He is STILL making mistakes and therefore acting in such a way.

The whole character of Camile was a pointless. It added nothing to the film and actually seems to confuse the story even more.

Why did they do that to Mathis? They have wasted the only other character in the film that was actually enjoyable. Even the wonderful Dame Judi was getting on my nerves by appearing every few minutes.

Just wait for the Blu ray release and fast forward to the last chapter then look forward to Bond 23.

You don't need to know the story of Tosca to get the gist of the scene.

Although it was very obviously a deliberate choice.

Underwhelming is the word I'd use. I wasn't expecting greatness and it was by no means terrible but I was just completely uninvolved in it.

The opera scene was a highlight, as were the scenes with Mathis but he was dreadfully under-used. Like everyone else, I couldn't follow the opening chase at all and the end of the on-foot one afterwarRAB wasn't much better. And it may only have been about 95mins without the credits but it sure felt longer.

I prefer this type of Bond to the spoofy approach of Moore & most of Brosnan's but the film needed a much, much stronger story and more time spent with the characters. I would defy anyone to come out of the film and be able to give a full run-through of the plot.

To be honest, towarRAB the end I began to feel like I couldn't care less. I was wondering what on earth the point of it all was. Had Bond been killed at the end, I wouldn't have minded particularly, just a "oh I see, he's dead". not good.

Really made me appreciate my favourite BonRAB even more: From Russia With Love / Goldfinger / Spy Who Loved Me / Licence to Kill / World Is Not Enough / Casino Royale. QOS should have been my type of Bond but it could hardly have been more diappointing.

yes that was a shame i'd love to of seen her as the bond girl, saden to of seen her covered in thick oil later on. of cousre it wasn't her ,it was mearly a dummy, made to look like her.

I may have missed something but how on earth did Bond get to Austria so quickly. The villain went by plane from the previous country so how did Bond keep up with a plane when he was in a car?

But I enjoyed it overall. But the country hopping was rediculous!

Truth be told, Bond is a tired franchise, needing to reinvent itself (it's currently in its Jason Bourne/Jack Bauer phase) but in the process losing all its charm. There's nothing much in QOS that hasn't been done before in another Bond film (and done better). I'd say the upside down bell tower fight scene was the only new thing in QOS.

It's amazing QOS has done so well. A fairly charmless brutish Bond - if anyone thinks Fleming's Bond was like that, I think they need to read some Fleming! LOL - in a brutish charmless Bond film. I wish I could bottle the Bond success. I'd become stinkin' rich selling it. :p

Call me old fashioned but I'd rather watch a proper Bond film with a Bond actor I'd love to be like, someone smart looking, sophisticated and charming, not grubby and brutish. I doubt Craig's Bond can even spell the word 'sophisticated'. Craig is no James Bond to me! He can stick his penguin gun barrel walk where the Bond sun don't shine. LOL :p

OK, so I saw it tonight for the first time.

It seemed to be like a series of set pieces strung together with a weak plot. I could describe some of the set-pieces but that would act as a spoiler for those who have not yet seen it.

But what disappointed me was the production style, in that every time they went to an action sequence, they turned off the steadicam and the picture shakes like crazy. But the dialog scenes were filmed nicely. It is almost as if the action was so poor that they added the shaking to make it seem more dramatic.

I think the producers were trying to cross Bond with "Mission Impossible".

In this way it reminRAB me a bit of "Saving Private Ryan", which appears to have had the shake added in post-production (if you freeze-frame SPR, there is no blurring).

I walked out of the cinema disappointed, and with a bit of a headache.

If you have not seen it yet, then try to sit towarRAB the back of the cinema, as you will have more chance of working out what is going on, esp when the film cuts quickly between shaky shots during fight scenes. Also watch Casino Royale on DVD a week (or a few days) before you go as there are frequent references to characters who were in that film.
