Qi

Ta, BigB, I was thinking there's a lot of mob mentality here. And a lot of...oh...negative posters rather than positive? But I love the Hitler/Nazi ref : )

Yeah, my opinion is wrong. So is the opinion of the panel on QI, and the producers, and the silent people I speak for! Freedom!

I guess I just get Johnny Vegas, and many people don't. It's good to get it, though : )

Ah, such a shame that Vegas just over-egged it a bit. He is good when he's on form (and when he stays on the right track). I thought it was funny in a previous show where he got the right answer by accident (masturbating with rice krispies, or something). You'd not get that now on the pre-watershed.

I was thinking about what makes a "good" guest, earlier, and I think it's easier to define what makes a "bad" guest. Flights of fancy and little tangents are okay, but they have to be interesting and worthy of getting some potential points. Complete bizarreness always falls flat.

There was that woman in one of the early series who was asked a sensible question and gave an answer involving Madonna at an airport, which I still have to mute when it comes on repeats. Reg Hunter also did a poor performance on QI (and he's great on everything else). Just not their style, I guess.

Guests who think that they have to be bizarre to win points will just end up *losing* the audience, I think.

Vic Reeves has come out with some astonishingly good (and interesting) answers during his times on the show, as well as some stupid bizarre moments.

Is this an update of the urban myth where "Organist Plays Wrong Robin Hood Theme at Wedding" ?

If you could run all your opinions by us from now on that would be great, thanks.

Though not as bothered by this as you are, I was also expecting a mention of Jack Mills and his being attacked during the robbery.

I agree about Lee Mack but one proper brainiac doesn't always equal good viewing, John Sessions and Rory McGrath were painful to watch. I think Stephen is enough to carry the informational part of the show, they just need to cut the broadcast version better imho.

Thanks for the heaRAB up. I would have missed it otherwise. :)

iPlayer don't do a reminder service do they? They should. It would help me out, especially with radio programs as generally you can't download them.

You're right, but I think I was just trying really to suggest the original concept of the show is safer when there is a brainy person on the panel rather than cheap comedians like Lee. It means that someone on the panel is actually trying to be interesting, then the others can 'indulge' with the comedy.

I agree though that the choice of brainiac neeRAB to be good too - the two you mentioned, plus a couple of others who have appeared have not understood the 'light' nature of the show and use it as an excuse to show off their cranial dexterity.
McGrath being the worst offender, but unfortunately Vic Reeves is one too.

Is there any reason why QI XL isn't on iPlayer? Have I Got More News for You, the extended version of HIGNFY, is on iPlayer, why not QI?

I though last week's QI was excellent with a nice balance of humour and information.

The dropping the bullet thing is actually obvious when you think about it but seems confusing when first put to you.

I actually enjoyed Barry Humphries and would far rather see him back than Phil Jupitus or Johnny Vegas - actually an idea for one of the awful fundraisers like Chidren In Need would be a QI with much loved TV characters. Barry could do it as Dame Edna, Ben Miller as one of the RAF pilots etc.

Just a thought........

I think you're exaggerating a little bit as I can think of plenty of contributions she's made unrelated to weight or gender. But I guess if you don't like that type of humour it will grate on you.

Agree about the err thing though!

For goodness' sake!

IT'S CHRISTMAS!

Acting like a bunch of 5-year-olRAB isn't a crime y'know! I loved it! It was in the same sort of vein as "They say of the Acropolis, where the Parthenon is..." and that was hilarious. Really, there is no difference between this and older episodes, you're all imagining it. I thought this was a very funny episode indeed. Can't believe how many people disliked it.

Bah, you've all made my Christmas Day rubbish now. Humbug to you all.

I'm not sure. I only realised last week when I waited until Tuesday to watch XL online after it's BBC2 broadcast only to find the regular episodes available.
