Basically if you're playing with four players, you take turns playing as the QB, while the rest of you three play as cornerbacks.
The objective for the QB is to make as many TD's as possible (short catches turned into long runs are worth the most points, hence the YAC).
The objective for the CB's is to prevent the WR that they are specifically covering from making a catch/TD.
There is a default of 3 rounds with 5 plays per round for each player.
So player 1 would get 5 play to get as many TD's, yards as possible.
Then it would switch it up.
It gets pretty insane because on defense you get points for not allowing catches/TD's, so things get balanced out.
It's also great fun watching your receiver make your 3 buddies completely whiff on him, or your three buds are like trying to tackle you and they all get in each other's way.

As for the motions, passing never gets old.
The worst part of the motions is the catching (for both offense and defense) and the hit stick.
For catching, you have to throw BOTH arms into the air straight up for it to register. Doing this motion while trying to maintain your receiver/cornerbacks running motion with the analog stick can be tricky...BUT is very doable. It feels GREAT when you can have your buddy throw a bomb to you and your sprinting for it and make the overhead catch.
Hit stick sucks, plain and simple. You have to thrust both arms FORWARD for it to register. But if you're playing defense, generally you're running down (pulling the analog stick downwards). So when you pull the analog stick towards the runner, you have to thurst your arms out, which ALOT of the times, causes me to move the analog stick back out, causing me to miss the runner completely.

To sum up, if you like traditional 1 on 1, competitive Madden games. Get the 360 or PS3 version.
If you want some crazy multiplayer (3-4 players), get the Wii. It attracts everyone who HASN'T played regular videogames ever.
